Ha! I confess I've never heard of any of them except for Fairport Convention. Rare to find a 'Celtic' album that is neither harpyharpy mystic aires or Pubalicious drinkingfighting songs, but usually it's at least... of Celtic origins.

Great Ghu, I'd have trouble making a mix CD of "Celtic Essential 30". Aside from the fact that they're filed under World, or Folk or Rock or Other in iTunes (only Hesperus is under Classical), it's not just one thing. Can you cover the essentials without Breton music? Kornog or Alan Stivel? Do you go with The Fureys, The Clanceys, or The Pogues? All of them?

How much singing do you have? What mix of contemporary vs. traditional vs. new in the trad. style? Do Merkins count? How about Canucks? What if they're singing about Hockey?

There are just too many questions. "Your search returned too many results. Please narrow the criteria and try again."
