Looks like the media box is still running -- it's just that its Ethernet connection keeps crashing, which makes it looks dead to the rest of our network.
I dunno, it works like a charm for the first bit of usage. For instance, this afternoon I was ssh'd into for a couple of hours, and it didn't go down until I started a big scp, and even then it managed to copy two albums worth of MP3s before going down.
My theory is a bad driver for it. Of course, I'm kind of stumped on how to prove that. At least, I can't think of anything better than downloading the latest Knoppix Live DVD...
Well, that's an encouraging test. Booted up the machine with the latest Knoppix Live CD, and started transferring the MP3 collection from another machine. So far 31 gigs transferred with no issues. So it sure seems like the hardware is fine and it's just a matter of getting an install with the right drivers...
