The young teenage boy lied on top of his roof and munched on a chocolate flavoured popsicle. He watched as the sun rose higher in the sky while the temperature gradually rose with it. A cloud moved near the sun and blocked the sun from shining onto him, causing him to wiggle his toes. He took another bite out of the popsicle.
“Junsu! Time for lunch!” The sound of a middle-aged women’s voice yelled from inside the house.
“Coming!” He bit the last part of his popsicle walked to the side of the roof. He gripped the edge and slid onto his bed through his bedroom window.
On day one of his fifteenth summer, he had one of the best lunches of all time.
He jumped on the trampoline in the backyard. For one second he was in the air, and the other second almost touching the ground below the trampoline. Occasionally, he did backflips for fun. He had lots of energy today, so he did many more backflips and other crazy looking stunts than usual.
He stopped after a while and laid on the trampoline. The sun shined brightly over top of him. He stretched and crossed his hands on the back of his head. He then closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
On day two of his fifteenth summer, he allowed himself to imagine about what it would be like to be a completely different person.
He thought about dressing up as a vampire to scare the next-door neighbour’s kids, but it was far too hot to do so. Just walking for a few steps made him sweat, but he couldn't stand staying in all day. A teenage boy in a child-sized inflatable pool might have looked odd to others, but on such a hot day, it seemed to have been acceptable. He played with the rubber duck that floated in the water with him.
“I should have a cool nickname...” He thought about it for a while and sat up. The wind blew on his now wet skin and cooled him.
“....Xiah, how does that sound? Xiah as in A”xiah”, meaning that I would conquer Asia!” He bursted into laughter and sounded like something between the mix of a duck and a dolphin.
On day three of his fifteenth summer, he found the coolest nickname in the entire world.
The field was almost as big as a size of a small forest. Every step of his had a little bounce to it as he walked down the field which glistened with strawberries everywhere. His throat was dry after the hot car ride and some juicy, sweet fruit tasted like heaven to him.
“Junsu!” He whipped his head in the direction of the voice and saw his mother who had a sour expression, “You’re eating more strawberries than what you have in the basket!”
She pointed at the basket in his hand, it was barely a quarter full. He frowned, he had surely picked more than that.
“Uh....” He scratched his head and gave a nervous chuckle, “I guess I was really hungry?”
His mother stared at him with an expressionless face and walked away. He continued walking and picking each strawberry one by one, popping every second one in his mouth.
On day four of his fifteenth summer, he ate the biggest quantity strawberries ever.
The small television blared loudly with sounds of a fast paced song as he danced freely around the living room. He jumped up onto the sofa and spinning a complete 360 to then make a landing on the floor. The fast paced song soon ended and a slow song came on.
He stopped dancing and turned to see what was on, annoyed that the other song was over. He flopped onto the sofa and watched the performance, trying to catch the first thing to criticize about it.
Five young men stood on a lone stage that was dimly lit. The moment they opened their mouths, he was captivated or even, intoxicated. They sang their hearts out and didn’t even seem to stop for a breath. At the same time, he didn’t seem to stop for a breath either.
On day five of his fifteenth summer, he found his dream.
end.
