...It was one of the first summer days with great weather and instead of washing the windows and bringing my apartment to order I decided to go for a short bicycle ride which ended being 6.5 hours of leisure sports day.
The explorer inside me decided that this time cycling from Fraser to Granville Island along the coastline is not good enough and it is time to discover downtown Vancouver and Stanley park. I took the Cambie bridge and was not sure which street would be the best to go along to Canada Place, so followed Cambie hoping that it is to the North (no “compass” of the mountains seen yet behind the tall buildings) to Cordova street, bought a snack from a nice Latin-American guy in Subway (who let me fill out my bottle with their lemon water for free, I guess my eyes were too round at hearing the price of $2.49 or sth…). Anyways, cycling along the embankment of Vancouver and Stanley park full of “hand-in-hand” and kissing people as well as roller-skaters and young sporty mommies and pappies running (!) with their strollers with toddlers - all that was kind of nice, if not to count that strangely roller-skaters turned out to be pretty fast in their skating and not always considerate for cyclists.
The beautiful weather, blue sky with fleecy clouds, open space, the sounds of the ocean and forest brought back the long forgotten feeling of freedom and joy, simple happiness of being closer to nature… Gigantic cruise ships were roaring while leaving the harbor, by some miracle they managed to pass under the bridge without crashing it, leaving behind people with snap cameras and playful waves kept rocking poor ducks and geese (or maybe they were enjoying it? … Fresh caressing wind, soothing generous summer sun, and the sound of sea and boats evoked the memories of Azov sea with simple childhood pleasures of swimming, fishing and catching shrimps, waiting for the sun to color the sky with bizarre shades of reds and yellows to prompt us whether the next day will be windy or not.
I suddenly recalled very vividly this sensation which one probably has only when being very young when everything seems to be very exciting and Present and Future seem bright and you are free to do whatever you want as everything would always come easy.., as if there are no wars, crimes and injustice, unemployment, poverty and miseries, miscommunication and global warming… when you don’t care that much how good you look or what is your line as the world seems to be very abundant and friendly and somewhere very near is that wonderful Future where you can easily figure out when to keep moving forward and when to stop and turn… that Future where dreams come true and Love and Joy are happy singing together sailing into the great unknown on the waves of Life...
