Of Angels and Nightgowns

Dec 29, 2011 00:05

A face.

A pretty face.

Luscious golden hair framed that pretty face.

Hyukjae couldn’t figure out what he was looking at. All he knew was that the gorgeous angel was a welcoming sight from his slumber.

“Oh, you’re awake,” the angel spoke.

Hyukjae mumbled something incomprehensible.

“You idiot, it’s me!” the girl poked him and was holding his hand.

Everything came into focus then and he knew who she was.

Hyoyeon.

“Hyoyeonnie, what are you doing here?” Hyukjae blinked the sleep out of his eyes.

“Visiting you,” Hyoyeon said, as if it were obvious.

“Why? I’m fine,” Hyukjae insisted.

“Being in the hospital isn’t fine.”

“I just hurt my leg practicing Mr. Simple and the doctors wanted to check it out. I only slept over overnight so they could check out the x-rays. I’m totally fine.” Hyukjae muttered stubbornly.

“You want me to leave then?” Hyoyeon let go of his hand and stood up abruptly.

No. No, stay.

“I don’t care,” Hyukjae responded, his stubborn side showing again.

Hyoyeon stared at him and huffed, aggravated, plopping back down in her seat.

“You’re so stupid. I’m not leaving you.”

She cares.

Hyukjae could only smile ridiculously back at her.

“I care about you, you know.” Hyoyeon tucked a strand of golden hair behind one ear, her voice growing quiet as her eyes traveled to the floor.

Hyukjae felt brave enough to make the first move this time and gently took her hand in his. “I know you do and I really appreciate it. Sorry for being an idiot.”

“You’re always an idiot,” Hyoyeon rolled her eyes.

“I’m trying to properly apologize to you here!” Hyukjae wiggled out of the bed sheets so he could sit up.

Hyoyeon sighed at his helplessness and propped the pillow up for him. “Can you do anything?”

“Thanks,” he gave her a cheesy grin.

Hyoyeon slapped him on his leg with a roll of her eyes.

“OW!” Hyukjae cried, his face contorting into pain.

He bit his lips and closed his eyes, wincing, reaching his hands out to lightly touch his leg.

“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry! I didn’t know--and you were--”

“Just kidding.” he grinned.

“You are unbelievable.”

Hyoyeon stood up, folded her arms and began walking towards the door.

“Wait, I was just messing with you! Hyoyeon!” Hyukjae called after her.

He mentally cursed himself for his extreme stupidity. Why would he pull such a stupid prank on her? Her, of all people? He knew she cared and that faking hurt would make her pissed.

I am an idiot.

Eyes closed, he exhaled deeply, trying to slowly release all the anger directed at himself from his system. He didn’t even hear the door open and the chair squeak as someone sat down in it.

“Hey.”

Hyukjae’s eyes flew open and he gaped. “Hyoyeon? What are you doing here?”

“You’re an idiot, but I still care.” Hyoyeon refused to make direct eye contact with him, so instead, she glanced out the windows.

Hyukjae began grinning once more. He was afraid that if he kept grinning the way he did, his face was going to split. “Look me in the eyes and tell me that.”

Hyoyeon ignored him and continued observing the late summer scenery outside the window.

“Hyoyeon~” Hyukjae whined.

“I’m not looking at you.” she replied, just as stubborn as him.

Hyukjae sat up straighter and leaned over, grabbing her by the arms. “Look at me.”

“No.”

He hopped out of his bed and stood in front of her back. “Hyoyeon!”

“Get back in bed, what if the doctor comes?” Hyoyeon scolded, back still turned.

“Kim Hyoyeon, look at me.” Hyukjae easily swiveled the chair around with his arm strength.

She stared at his chin, which she now realized looked kind of...perfect.

What kind of weird things are you thinking about? Hyoyeon chided herself.

“Up here,” Hyukjae said, and it was then that Hyoyeon noticed how close they were, with him leaning over her.

“I’m not looking at you,” Hyoyeon said with finality.

“It’s not that hard!” he complained.

He doesn’t know how hard it is for me to resist, the idiot.

“If you look at me, I’ll tell you a secret.” Hyukjae proposed.

Hyoyeon snorted. “I know everything about you! Why would I need to know--”

Hyukjae chuckled, “It’s the one thing you don’t know about me.”

Why was I born so darn curious about everything?

Giving in to her curiosity, Hyoyeon agreed, her eyes still on his chin. “Fine, but you have to promise to tell me.”

“I promise,” he held out a pinky, which Hyoyeon promptly locked with hers.

“Good,” Hyoyeon murmured.

“Now...”

Hyoyeon easily met his eyes. “I’m looking at you.”

He smiled, leaned in closer to her, and swiftly kissed her chastely on the lips.

Hyoyeon’s wide eyes gazed up at Hyukjae who was smiling still, but almost in a shy way now. “W-What did you do that for?”

“That was uh, my secret. I love you.”

“Hyukkie, sorry I came so late!” the cheery voice of Donghae came from the door. “OH MY GOD, WHAT’S HAPPENING?!”

“Get out!” Hyukjae yelled at his best friend.

Shouting, still alarmed, Donghae raced out of the room and slammed the door behind him in mortal fear.

“Don’t yell at him,” Hyoyeon pouted.

“Stop using aegyo,” Hyukjae countered, eyes twinkling.

“I wasn't!”

“Yeah, you were.”

“Then you must like it or something, because you’re smiling like you just won the lottery.” Hyoyeon stuck her tongue out in a childish manner at him.

“Maybe I did win it,” Hyukjae caressed her cheek with his thumb.

“What makes you think I reciprocate your feelings?” Hyoyeon scoffed, pushing his hand away.

He smirked. “Tiffany told me.”

“She what?” Hyoyeon screeched, “She promised she could keep a secret!”

Hyukjae couldn’t hide his huge grin; he beamed and put his hands on her shoulders. “I just made that up and you just confirmed your feelings for me.”

“I hate you.” Hyoyeon pouted again, not realizing she was doing so.

“I thought you loved me!” Hyukjae pouted too, feigning hurt.

“Stop that,” she smacked his arm.

“Fangirls like it when I pout,” he teased.

Hyoyeon could only roll her eyes. “I’m not your fangirl.”

“Say it,” Hyukjae requested, changing the topic suddenly.

Confused, Hyoyeon asked, “What?”

“Say you love me,” he pleaded.

“I don’t think so.” she smiled smugly, rising from her seat and heading to the door.

Hyukjae wrapped his arms around her waist to prevent her from leaving again. He rested his head on her shoulder, inhaling her sweet scent.

Hyoyeon couldn’t hide the pink that was slowly creeping up to her cheeks. “Hyuk, stop.”

With a cute, nervous laugh, he admitted, “I’ve always wanted to do this...with you.”

“I love you.”

Dazed from the fact that he was holding the girl he loved in his arms, he didn’t pay attention.

“Okay, I said it, let go!”

“What? No, you didn’t!” Hyukjae exclaimed, releasing her from his hold.

“Yeah, I did,” Hyoyeon grinned victoriously, her back against the door.

“I didn’t hear it though, so it doesn’t count!” Hyukjae insisted.

“You just said to say it!” she reasoned.

Looking crestfallen, Hyukjae made his shoulders slouch. Hyoyeon laughed at his gestures.

Suddenly, the door flew open with immense force that knocked Hyoyeon forward. Hyukjae hurriedly caught her before she hit the floor headfirst.

Donghae’s head poked in cautiously. “Okay, what’s going on in here?”

The boy glanced at the shocked faces of his best friend and Hyoyeon. He saw Hyukjae’s arms hugging Hyoyeon’s shoulders. Then he grinned creepily.

“I see...”

“Get out, please, Donghae.”

“I just wanted to see you!” Donghae frowned.

“You saw me. Now get out.”

“Please?”

“Get out now!” Hyukjae sighed; Donghae could be so difficult.

“So mean,” Donghae muttered to himself, retreating outside yet again and closing the door softly.

“Can you say it now?” Hyukjae pleaded.

“You wish,” Hyoyeon muttered, smiling a bit evilly.

“You’re so stubborn.” Hyukjae commented with a frustrated groan.

“You’re one to talk!” she poked him in the chest.

“I’m hurt,” Hyukjae pouted yet again, putting his hand over his heart.

Hyoyeon rolled her eyes at him. “Idiot.”

“But you love me, right?”

“Hyoyeon?”

“Yeah, I do,” Hyoyeon mumbled under her breath, suddenly feeling a pair of muscular arms lift her body into the air and spinning her around.

She squealed and screamed, to Hyukjae’s delight. “Put me down!”

He smirked, and continued twirling her around and around. “Then say it.”

“I love you! PUT ME DOWN!”

And Hyoyeon’s feet touched the safe ground.

“Was that so hard?” Hyukjae teased, still holding her hands.

“Somewhat,” Hyoyeon responded wittily.

Hyukjae could only laugh.

“By the way, you look really stupid in that nightgown.”

“I’ll pretend I heard, ‘You look really hot in that nightgown.’ instead, okay?”

“Whatever helps you sleep at night...”

“Can’t you be a little nicer to me now?”

“Nah, I’ll only tease you more.”

“You’ll tease me because you love me?”

“Yes, yes, I love you, as if you didn’t already know.” Hyoyeon almost wanted to smack Hyukjae; partly for him being a dork and partly for him being so cute that it made her face hurt.

“I just love hearing that.” he said, sounding happy.

“Idiot.”
