Julia Murney at Joe's Pub

I went.  And even though I brought my camera, I was not brave enough to document it.  Sorry.

I met Scott Alan. Like, I had a conversation with him. I got in line outside of Joe’s Pub and asked the two guys standing in front of me “Is everyone here to see Julia Murney” (I feel the need to ensure I’m in the right place). They turned around and said yes, and then I said “Are you Scott Alan?” I told him I was “kind of a fan”, which is only sort true. I have his CD Keys thanks to xixlovexgreenx, but I don’t really flail over him. I mostly enjoy that he knows people I flail over. He was super nice and asked my name and shook my hand. And he’s really good looking. I mean, if I were straight and he were straight…..we’d be two very good looking straight people. Anyway, he and his friend were discussing “Twighlight”, which I haven’t seen, nor do I have a real desire to, not having read the book. They thought it was “eh” and said it seemed like they left it open for a sequel (in case anyone wanted to know their opinion on the movie). It kind of turned into awkward-standing-in-line-occasional conversation, because we weren’t together, but standing next to each other, you know? Plus I was by myself and behind them, which meant it was natural for me to face forward, instead of towards my nonexistent companion. When some friends of his showed up, they were making introductions and I was doing my best to not pay attention when Scott Alan said “And this is Hannah, who we just met in line.” I was super cool with my surprised “Oh, hi.” Once we got inside and I bought my ticket (Scott Alan’s friends had their tickets reserved by Julia herself), Scott Alan (whom I will always refer to by his full name) called out “Bye Hannah, nice to meet you!” Nice guy.

Aside from being bummed that there was a minimum two drink or food order (I ordered shrimp cocktail, thinking it would worth the most on the $10 food menu, but they brought me 6 tiny egg roll things. I didn’t complain since I wasn’t even hungry in the first place, but I ate them. They were greasy.), Julia was GREAT. I won’t do a whole run-down, but she was so funny and I actually really loved her rocked out songs the best. She made a point to show off her shoes, then informed us that she bought them at Payless. She also said that whenever she does these concerts she doesn’t think anyone will come, and that she was surprised that so many people came so late on a rainy Monday. Don’t you know that we love you, Julia? She ended with Sugarland’s “Gotta Be Something More” followed by “Rainbow Sleeves”, which is probably my favorite song on her album. Then, since we all wanted more, she told us the infamous Cocktober story as an intro to “Fancy”. I really enjoyed her rocking the country.

Oh, and I’m pretty sure I walked by Adam Kantor on my way to the bathroom.

Even though I was almost falling asleep on the subway, when I got home I didn’t feel like going to bed so I ate a slice of cold meatball pizza and tea, and wrote out most of this post, which is why it might be kind of rambling.

Oh!  I almost forgot:  Katie Thompson, who joined Julia for a couple of songs on the piano, is a singer songwriter and her voice is amazing.  I suggest looking her up.  I'm looking forward to hearing more of her stuff.

I hope everyone (well, everyone in the U.S) has a great Thanksgiving.  I will be leaving the city, unfortunately, so I won't be attending the parade.  Though watching it on TV might be one of the highlights of the weekend.
