Jeph runs his palm back and forth across the grass, relishing the rasp against his skin. The cigarette in his other hand is sending ribbons of smoke into the air. Frank's head is resting in his lap, and his eyes -- nearly the same green as the grass beneath his hand -- are closed.
Jeph only sees him when Frank needs to escape, and that's not often. Two or three times a year, maybe. But it's enough; it has to be. Even if it does hurt as much as this cigarette, burning down to the sensitive skin between his fingers.
