See, I could never really narrow down a list of my top five games, there are just too many, and they're too different. I mean, how can I compare the epic heroism of Link to the Past with the immersive pulsing of Rez? Or Samus's eerie descent in Super Metroid to the brilliant but painful writing and tricky plot-twists in the Phoenix Wright games?

I can say, though, that one game stands alone in the crowd as perhaps the greatest game I've ever had the pleasure to play. The graphics are primitive, the combat simplistic, and the required path in each game is the same. It's a game that takes weeks, months or even years to successfully complete, and it doesn't play fair. Yet somehow I can never keep away for long, no matter how many times a rock falls on my head, and I die.

If GTA is a murder simulator, Nethack must be a suicide simulator.

It was difficult, but I went with the games that hold my favorite stories and my favorite gameplay. I still play Mission Critical every now and then on a DOS emulator.

I absolutely love the Metal Gear Solid series of games, so I fully expect to add Metal Gear Solid 4 to my list come March. :)
