you can just split the files with a file-splitting tool (GNU has split, there are several others available for other platforms). Then you can just quickly concatenate the files (with say unix cat or some windows tool, I don't know what weird stuff you guys use).
Splitting the files for checksum purposes isn't a bad idea, but "packing" them with rar or arj is just dumb since movies and music and images already are compressed and trying to "compress" them further only makes them larger.
If you want to "package" it, you can use tar, it doesn't attempt to compress.
