A Defense for Disney Sequels

So after listening to two of my friends completely bash Disney sequels about, I finally have to say something:
They don't all suck. When I actually ask about which ones they've seen, people usually have only seen one or two, and make a blanket statement about the others. So, here's a rundown of them from someone who actually HAS seen most of them. ( Read more... )

One of the complaints I've heard about Disney sequels is that the animation style isn't as good as the originals. But isn't it true that half of the point of the sequels is that Disney trains their junior animators on them?

Return to Neverland, both the Aladdin sequels, Rescuers Down Under, and Ariel's Beginning are all amazing, by the way. Though Rescuers Down Under never felt like a sequel to me. Maybe it's because I watched more than The Rescuers as a kid. I was a bird fanatic even back then.

I really loved Lion King 1 1/2. Because, following in the Shakespearean trend with the Lion King series, 1 1/2 is Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, which is one of my favourite plays.

Not too huge a fan of LM2: Return to the Sea, but Tara Strong (Melody) is always good. And it did have one really awesome song. And I'm sure it fulfilled lots of little kids' dreams about turning into a mermaid. ;)

I hated Hunchback 2. It was atrocious. And it made me cry.

That's my opinion of sequels. I haven't seen many of the others. :)
