that is just one more reason for me to say that d.c. united is the best mls team, they have no "the". nobody says "the d.c. united", it's just d.c. united.

however, it's not just singular nouns. there are plenty plural nouns as well in mls teams: the metrostarS, wizardS, colorado rapidS... you get the point.
