Ok to start off 2009 there are two things bugging me, but they fall under the same generic category ( Read more... )

But digital signal is better, and it will now be easier for companies to only have to conform to the one standard rather than having to accommodate both, on top of that with the desertion of analogue, the rights to the analogue spectrum were sold, thus making money and generating business for our cash strapped economy.

That's one way of putting it. I still don't like digital at all. There was nothing wrong with the analog signal to begin with and what I have a problem with is the Government telling us "the law says digital."

The bulb thing doesn't bother me too much because it's in China, just the fact that if they were actually trying to help, they'd use the L.E.D, because they're a lot better from what I've read about them.

The whole thing about China doesn't matter to me though, because those are American companies out sourcing their cheap labor to China. It's not like the Chinese are launching some secret attack against us, they just have really poor labor conditions over there, so things like that happen. If anything, that should be a lesson to the American companies to keep labor here instead of trying to take advantage of cheap Chinese labor, because with the cheap labor, comes pitfalls.

Anyways, the thing that really disturbs me about the government enforcing the switch to digital, is that they're taking one of our main sources of communication and putting control and regulation on it. It all seems so 1984 to me.

It bothers me, because of our trade defecit to them. They are one of the top holders of American debt and they are against us on almost all major geopolitical scenarios. I'd rather not fund their cruel autocracy. They may not be launching a secret attack, but buying toxic products from them so they can pay child laborers less than a penny a day isn't the way to go. China won't last, but when they start to go down they're going to call in all those IOU's we took out to pay for Iraq, so I'd rather not spend money on them.

This is a very good point, and I definitely agree with you there. We're going to be so screwed when that time comes, it would have been nice if we didn't take those loans from just anybody, even if they were the few willing to give us money.

CFL bulbs emit much less energy than incandescent Bulbs. Which is better for the planet. Which is better for you.

And in any case, yes, the government is telling you to do something. But it's something ridiculously small, this isn't germany were the government makes you join the army. This is just a different tv signal, and a different lightbulb. This is nothing like 1984.

Also basically everything is made in china. Including Nikes.

LED Lightbulbs cunsume less energy than CFL lightbulbs and they do not contain hazardous material.
This isn't Europe. And the lightbulb they are telling us to buy contains hazardous material from a country that owns a lot of our nation's debt and we already have a HUGE trade defecit with them, so I'd rather not pay them more money for a product that is dangerous.
Yeah a lot of things are made in China, but that doesn't make me any happier with it. I'll still look for the products that are not made in China and I'll only buy the ones made there if I don't have any other option. Nikes are made in Vietnam.

Right, but if it's so ridiculously small, why go as far as to make it the law? Also, I have a problem when one of the nation's most used sources of communication has even more rules and regulations tacked on to it. I say that it seems 1984 to me, because it always takes small changes to move into something not so good when nobody is paying attention, not just one huge step.

Whatever though, even if I'm being completely delusional [which is entirely possible, I just really mistrust the government and become a bit skeptical when stupid shit like this comes about for seemingly no good reason], Trevor and anybody else has every right to complain and not be happy with the laws that are passed.

Change is change. You can't stop it.

Gonna have to accept it anyways.

You're right. But, that doesn't mean I have to like it. It also won't stop me from buying a better product than the CFL.

It's the people who sit and say "eh, you can't stop it anyways" that are responsible for the past 8 years, for instance. Countless other things as well. It worries me that so many people are willing to just sit by and take such a passive attitude to things that they don't find to be good or necessary.

Because it's nothing to be griping about, it's a tv signal and a lightbulb. Technology gets out-dated, replaced, upgraded, and eventually goes extinct.

I'm sorry you feel what you don't determine to be necessary, but for the majority, it's going to be the standard.
