After college, I looked up the teachers who had been The Inspirations for me, and I called each one to thank her. Now, I send notes to my son's teachers, letting them know when he says something positive about what they have done for him. None of us could be where we are without a teacher, be it a professional in a school, or someone who just took the time to show us how to do something.

Your job is so important! You are so important. I would not be where I am today if not for a select few teachers who gave a damn.

You may have had some of the edges worn off by the river, but your presence still has an effect on the current.

I'm glad your former students gave you that boost.

It doesn't help that the profession of teaching has been vilified by the neocons.
