As I have evolved, my favorite colors have been evolving as well, reflecting how my passions have changed with maturity. My first favorite color was red, inspired by my kindergarten teacher. I believe it's true that you learn everything you need to know about life in kindergarten - how to share, what kind of person you wanted to be in the future, and most importantly, that all great things are simple. Although they were far gone from my memory, my father told me about my troubles with my kindergarten teacher. When I entered kindergarten, she mistook me for a cheater because I did so well on tests. She even took it as far as buying me a book about cheating. But by the time I left kindergarten, she described me as nothing less than brilliant. It's a hard fight to change someone’s opinion, but the color red inspired me. The color red is bright and shows brilliance and determination. As a little child, I thought of becoming a surgeon like my father, but although I had an affinity for red, the sight of blood was traumatic. And so I dreamed of becoming an architect instead, one that mapped buildings and structures and had the freedom to create whatever he wished. I liked the feeling of limitless creativity.
When traveling into high school, my favorite color initially changed to black. Black is a deep color; if an object is painted the darkest of blacks, it is impossible to estimate the dimensions of the object using only sight. I became a boy who did not want to be understood only with the eyes. I wanted to be judged carefully and understood. As I progressed through school, my favorite color became blue. I found connections between my new favorite color and my personality: I am calm and patient, like the tranquil blue. I am also ever-changing, in the way that blue has countless shades and moods. As before, I did not want to have my depth judged merely from the surface.
As the task of applying to colleges neared, I reverted back to a shade of red. With a return of focus on brilliance and determination, I chased a goal of entering the medical field. At the crucial time of deciding what I wanted to do in life, I decided on a profession which could help people while at the same time being able to hold the weight of my appetite to learn. I have decided I wanted to study the brain in college, and in the future become a neuroradiologist. The brain is a complex organ that will take many years to reveal the mysteries of, and therefore I’d like to go to a college that will allow me to discover more about myself as well as others. The color brown reminds me of the earthly colors of someone who was once misjudged as only a seedling, but who defied this and became an oak tree, standing above the rest.
In your college, I wish to develop a love for the light browns that symbolize academic maturity. It is that which will spur a youthful mind into success in the world.
