I suppose that's true, but I always found it rather silly to tell your opponent what you're about to do before you do it.

Silly as that sounds, yes.

It would probably be against common battling etiquette to confuse the opponent by giving pre-taught instructions for moves instead of simply yelling the move names.

It only really makes any kind of difference if you don't know the moves of the opposing Pokemon though.
