It was the tounge in cheeck use of modern day music in an movie set so long ago. Almost like all these modern hits were just covers of what these guys did in 1900. The music was what drove the story. Just like the other two films in the trilogy. The Dancing drove ballroom and the words drove R&J. It was just a fanciful musical without a happy ending. Just don't get to see many of those anymore. Too many people are obsessed with having some sort of neat tied up happy ending and they ignore the journey completly. But the journey is what is important. Yeah. I am drunk and philosophizing.
Though I am not one to looks for, or, most times, likes neat tied up happy ending movies, perhaps I am just seeing it as being another R&J story. Ill-fated star-crossed lovers and the such.
Or maybe I'm just against the idea that this movie was good and original and interesting and arty and all the other things people call it.
