Colbert/Fick - “When I can’t bring myself to say what I need to do / my heart plays Russian RoulidrilkaDecember 19 2010, 15:37:12 UTC
They’re plying him with beer and tequila and whiskey, and Brad thinks that he spots a bottle of vodka somewhere in the mix at one point, and the LT-Captain-Nate-for once doesn’t try to protest, just knocks back the shots handed to him, like he doesn’t have to care about conduct becoming of an officer of the United States Marine Corps. (Well, he doesn’t, not anymore.)
Brad has to admit, Nate saying fuck you to the rules of proper behavior is, in a way, a thing of beauty. He is also drunk

Brad considers it for a moment, but it’s too dark in the apartment to do anything, and he doesn’t know the layout, so he turns on the tall lamp standing in the far corner of the room, which giving off soft, mellow light that won’t hurt Nate’s eyes

IDK, this didn't go where I thought it was going"...and STAY off!" The door slams behind Brad, and he strides back to the kitchen. In his hand, he's holding the Sunday Washington Post, an indulgence Nate refuses to give up for the electronic format

I'm just going to pretend this is the Stafford & Christeson who live near Ray & Nate in my college fic. Evan's face appears over him, his grin splitting his face. Too cheery, too awake and not hungover. Damn him. This was great, made me smile.

THIS IS ADORABLE. I hadn't even thought of college with the roommates thing, but it works so well! And of course Q-tip is an arts major! Of course he takes over all of John's playlists! ::is delighted::
Brad/Ray -- I told you not to get drunk on the eggnogjmc_bksDecember 19 2010, 16:15:14 UTC
After spending months reading awesome GK fic, I've written a very short one. And it may suck entirely and not be worth posting here, so if anyone would be willing to give it a quick read and then tell me whether or not I should kill it, I'd be grateful. He's dying. That's all Brad can think as he surfaces from what feels like a drugged sleep. Christ, has something crawled into his mouth and died? Cracking open his eyelids is a mistake, because the watery light leaking in through the shades stabs his brain. Rolling over is a downright disaster, since it makes every muscle in his back ache, and also sets off a round of nausea that has Brad lunging for the bathroom and barely making it in time to lose the contents of his stomach

Oh, this is fucking incredible. I mean. Just.
Brad wouldn't have made it through the war if those cheekbones were leading the way. But when the camera comes in close, so close you can see real sand and dirt smudged so deep in his pores it's not coming out just because a beautiful British woman yells cut - in those shots, weary and disillusioned and still so much stronger than he ever gave himself credit for, Brad sees the Nate he knows and has to look away.

This, all this. Sort of speechless here.
