The target audience are men age 18 to 34 though they do realize that they have readers in other demographics.

You won’t be seeing Donna Troy yet in the new DCU, nor the Stephanie and Cassandra Batgirls. They haven’t been killed off though, just benched. Now I don't know about you, but this isn't really making me feel very ( Read more... )

DC should really fire their marketing department. Talk about alienating a HUGE demographic! I mean, have these people ever walked the floors at a con? Guys are not their sole audience anymore, but they're pretty much pushing away anyone other than the middle-aged male. No wonder the industry is dying.

But you know what - if DC doesn't want my money that's fine. I have no problem giving it to their competition. It's about time I got back into the X-books anyway.

It hurts me because when I first got into comics, I was actually LOOKED DOWN UPON by a lot of the male customers. After some time and going there a lot, that sort of attention calmed down to the point that no one bothered me or if they talked to me, it was about how awesome such and such title is. I think part of that WAS because such strong females were given series. But now that they will be erased and DC itself is stating that women AREN'T SERIOUS FANS, I feel like it's going to flare up again.

Fuck. That.

I'm so tired of this. They can't even acknowledge women as part of their readership. How much bullshit have people who don't fit the 18-34 year old heterosexual white male mold had to put up with in this industry? I love the characters in the DCU. I fell in love with Batman and Catwoman and Batgirl when I was just a little girl and have found a lot of other great characters to love in the DCU as an adult. Why do they try so hard to tell me they don't want my business?

I like how they are trying to tell people they are becoming more diverse by adding in non white characters. But those non white characters are still hetero and very much male. So much for diversity. I'd be grateful for the fact they are trying if they didn't blatantly tell women they don't exist in the industry.

Of course! Why try to get new audiences in when you can just cater for the same, shrinking group forever?

As a 28 year old guy I just love being told what characters I'm allowed to enjoy.

Well as a man you should only enjoy CERTAIN LEGACY CHARACTERS BECAUSE THAT IS ALL MEN LIKE, GOSH. Pshhh what MAN appreciates a FEMALE character? Not one DC wants to know!!
