High atop the book shelves of Xavier's School For Gifted Children stand the books so rarely touched by any but the brightest minds, yet there's one in particular that Bobby Drake, the youngest X-Man, turns to repeatedly. "Really, Bobby?" Jean asks one day, catching sight of the book's title. "The Advanced Study of Quantum Physics?"

"Yeah, sure, Jeannie," Bobby replies with a careless shrug. "Why not?" He rattles off the one equation he knows, all the while grinning. "That's interesting, don'tcha think? I want to learn more."

Jean gazes at him for a long moment, then says passively, "All right," and continues on her path.

She doesn't see Bobby replace the book even more quickly than he brought it down, using an ice bridge instead of a ladder to reach it. Nor does she notice the little, blue slip of paper he crumples into his hand. Bobby races outside and doesn't open the note and flatten it out to read it until he's completely certain he's alone.

"Meet me in the garden," it reads, "away from prying eyes where we two can be alone with each other's sighs." It's corny, but it makes him laugh and warms him to the deepest recesses of his cold, cold heart. He stuffs the note into his pocket, sealing the pocket with an extra layer of ice, then races off to be with his furry, blue lover where only the flowers and the two of them will be witnesses to what really makes them joyously sigh.

The End
