It appears that Jive Records is no more!

From Celebs on gather.com, ( Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Pink are among the many singers who are suddenly looking for a new recording home. Even some winners of American Idol are in jeopardy, with Lee DeWyze the first complete casualty.

What is causing this major shake-up? The Hollywood Reporter says it's because RCA has decided to shut down three of its major labels. Those are Arista, Jive and J Records... )

Whoa!

My late friend Megan was a secretary at Arista in the early days, just after Clive Davis had started it. I used to hang out in their executive offices with her.

This is just...shocking isn't the word, since -- as a New Yorker -- I know that everything changes, but it sure feels like the end of an era to me.

I remember one evening where we had to get from Manhattan to Kennedy Airport really quickly to get Ben Folds some paperwork needed so that his band could get on their plane.

Megan and I had some very interesting times.....

I wish I was surprised...with the way the music industry has been bleeding over the past few years, they have to do what they can to save money.

Wow - that is something. I'm a little older, so it's not exactly the soundtrack to my childhood, but the soundtrack to my obsession. :)
