Upon leaving the bus Jason knew he had more than a few hours to fool around before the show. He wasn’t sure what to do with himself, though. While he had been with Billie the others had went out to lunch, as per usual. Though, as Jason paced awkwardly backstage, thoughts of Billie pierced through his head. There was a part of him that wanted to go and talk to Mike...but he couldn’t decide if that was the right thing to do or not. He knew Billie was upset by what had happened, and he knew it wasn’t all about his cuts or the panic attacks. But still…Mike couldn’t help but to remember the promise he had made to Billie about not telling anyone what they talked about. In the end Jason shrugged it off. It couldn’t hurt just to talk to Mike, could it? And besides, who said if that if they were going to talk that they would have to talk about Billie? Jason had been spending most of his free time with Billie and hadn’t really spent as much time with the rest of the band as he usually did on tour; Jason figured he probably owed it to Mike to talk to him, about Billie or not. When the others had all gotten back from lunch, Jason found Mike. They both sat on the couch backstage alone; Tre and the others made themselves scarce when they noticed the pair awkwardly trying to talk. When Jason had sat down with Mike he knew that they both knew what they were there to talk about, what they had really wanted to talk about, but neither dared to mention it - especially Jason. After what seemed like hours of awkward small talk about the weather and their wives, Mike finally mentioned Billie. “So, uh, how’s Billie?” When Jason heard Mike mention his friend’s name his stomach twisted itself inside. He almost wished Mike hadn’t mentioned it - even if they had both been thinking about it. Jason shrugged at first, feeling his nervousness surface as he did. “He, uh, he told me what happened between you guys earlier,” Jason mumbled, starring at the floor. Mike looked up, surprised. “H-he did?” he asked, his voice faltering out of surprise. Jason bit his lip, glancing up at Mike who had a look confusion painted across his face. Neither knew what to say, and Jason only continued to chew on his bottom lip, keeping his eyes on the floor. “He didn’t mean to yell at you and stuff,” Jason added. Mike glanced up at Jason to make eye contact when he heard his voice. His eyes darted around before settling down awkwardly on the floor. “Did he tell you that?” Jason nodded, still chewing on his lip. “Yeah. He did. He feels really bad about it, Mike.” He nodded, taking a deep breath before speaking. “I…I don’t even know what happened, Jase. He just…” Jason bit more of his lip, nodding. He didn’t know what to say; he didn’t feel like he could say much more about what Billie had told him. He felt bad enough for breaking the promise he’d made with Billie by telling Mike what he’d already said, he knew he couldn’t say anymore. “He…,” Mike stopped for a second, thinking, “sort of seemed like he was having a panic attack, but I really couldn’t tell. He was all curled up, not facing me. I…I can’t figure out what happened. I mean….” Jason took a breath, trying to relax himself enough to say something. “He’s got a lot going on right now, Mike. Things…things aren’t too great for him. Adie’s worried about him, and it’s just…everything’s a lot for him to handle right now. He didn’t mean anything by what happened, though. I know he really wanted you to know that.” Mike nodded, “Yeah. Things haven’t seemed right with him....” Mike let his voice trail off. He wasn’t sure exactly what Jason knew about what had happened between him and Billie, so he decided to keep quiet. He didn’t want to let anything slip out if Billie wasn’t ready to deal with it yet. Jason just nodded. “He’ll be okay, I know he will be. Y’know, eventually and everything.” Mike nodded in return, not saying anything, only praying to himself that Jason’s words were true. That night before the show Billie talked to Bill about Adie visiting…and surprisingly, or at least surprisingly to Billie, at least, Bill was okay with it. In fact, he hadn’t seemed worried about it at all; the only thing he did seem worried about was if Billie was okay. He’d been bombarded with questioning from Bill about being able to do the show - and with every question Billie was asked, he tried to act like he was okay. Although, in reality, Billie felt physically fine to do the show; the only thing that might not have been fine to do the show was his mind. Before the show that night Billie spent it talking to Adie backstage. He’d called her, trying to figure out last minute details. Billie tried his best not to panic, but it was hard; he couldn’t help but to anymore, really. Even with a little panicking, though, the phone call seemed to go pretty well. That fact, at the very least, made him feel a little better. Adie seemed excited to see him, and she hadn’t mentioned how she was worried about him. He wasn’t sure if this meant she had relaxed about it or not, but he was praying that was the case. He didn’t want anyone to be worried about him anymore. He was fucking tired of it. Before going on stage that night Billie got himself wasted…again. Drinking was the only way he could deal with shows anymore. Billie just couldn’t do it without getting drunk. It helped ease his mind, and at times it even made being on stage enjoyable, almost like old times. By the end of the show, though, Billie had gotten himself so drunk that he was stumbling around and forgetting entire verses to songs. When the show had finally ended and Bill had noticed how drunk Billie was he grabbed Jason. “Go put him in bed,” he snapped, sounding rather stern. Upon hearing him, Jason only shook his head. “Hey, I’m not holding his hair back while he pukes. Billie can take care of himself,” Jason spat back in a bitter tone. Bill sighed, glancing over at Billie who was stumbling around and obnoxiously harassing members of the crew. Jason took notice too, only rolling his eyes. “Just…the others aren’t going to put up with him, hell,” he paused, “no one wants to put up with him…I just think it might be best if you could get him in bed or something…or at least away from everyone.” Bill talked in a hushed whisper, and while Jason listened he sighed. He did not feel like dealing with Billie again. Especially a drunk one. Hell, at this point, Jason would have taken panic attack Billie over a drunk Billie. “Just…please?” he heard Bill say. Jason sighed again. “All right. Fine. I’ll try to get him on the bus, all right? But if he starts puking on me or something, that’s it,” Jason warned. Bill nodded and opened his mouth to say something, but Jason cut him off. “And you owe me big for this.” Bill nodded again, a string of “yeah sure, whatever” type phrases flowing out of his mouth. He smiled, and thanked Jason a couple of times before he ran off to collect Billie Joe. Jason wasn’t sure how he ended up getting Billie on the tour bus…but he did. The whole time Billie talked loudly about a bunch of shit that didn’t make much sense to Jason. Even so, Jason hadn’t paid much attention to most of it; he could care less about whatever Billie was blabbering about. Every now and then Billie would very loudly say, “right Jason?” or something along those lines, and Jason would agree, although he usually had no idea what he was agreeing with. Honestly, he usually didn’t mind dealing with a shit faced Billie…but his patience with his friend was becoming thinner with every second Jason spent with him. He sighed as he tried to get Billie to lie down in his bunk. “Come on, sleep, Billie,” he was saying. Billie only shot up from his bunk, though. “No, no, we’re not going to sleep,” Billie shouted loudly. Jason closed his eyes, gritting his teeth in frustration. He tried to keep from getting angry, but with every time he heard his loud voice his patience grew thinner and thinner. He sighed, pulling Billie closer to him. “Come on, Beej,” he said to his friend, in a weary voice, full of tiredness Billie smiled, allowing Jason to pull him closer. “You tired, Jasey?” he heard Billie affectionately ask. Jason stifled his laugh and nodded, hoping he could get Billie to fall asleep now. “Yeah, I am, Beej.” Billie only frowned nuzzling his head into Jason’s neck. “Mhh. Jasey.” Jason tried not to laugh at his drunk friend again, instead trying to mask it with a smile. “You wanna get some sleep Beej?” he asked. Billie only mumbled Jason’s name again in the same affectionate way. Hearing it again made Jason smile. “Come on Beej, let’s get you to sleep, okay?” Jason said, reaching up to slide his fingers into Billie’s black curls. Billie smiled and mumbled Jason’s name. he nuzzled his head into his neck again and seemed to settle down, wrapping his arm around Jason, resting there for awhile, much to Jason’s surprise. As Billie mumbled something that Jason couldn’t understand he moved, laying his head down at the top of the bed. Jason smiled, taking a deep breath. Hopefully Billie would go to sleep now so he could stop babysitting him and have the rest of the night to himself. Jason covered Billie with a blanket, rubbing his back here and there as he went along. Billie’s eyes fell closed and he figured he was on his way to falling fast asleep. He got up from the bed, smiling a little as he looked at the resting Billie. However, when he moved to get up he felt Billie tug back on his arm. Jason sighed inside when he felt Billie’s hand on his arm. “Jasey,” Billie whined, tugging harder. Jason sat back down on the bed, glancing at his friend. “You want me to stay?” he asked, even though he knew the answer. Billie nodded, affectionately trying to rub his head into Jason’s arm. Jason sighed, moving to sit next to Billie’s head. Billie pulled on his hand again and Jason bit his tongue to hold his anger inside. What else could he fucking want? he thought to himself. Billie was frowning as he pulled on Jason’s hand. “Jasey, lay with me?” he asked, slurring his words here and there. Jason sighed as he felt Billie tug on his hand again - he was starting to really fucking annoy him. Billie moved so that Jason could lie in front of him, all the while mumbling and slurring his words. Jason took a deep breath as he laid there, hoping now that Billie would leave him alone and just get some fucking sleep. As he laid there he felt Billie press his body up against Jason’s, sliding his one arm around him, squeezing him. He smiled a little, even though Billie couldn’t see him. Jason heard Billie mumble some more, but he couldn’t make out what he was saying; whatever it was, though, it sounded affectionate. He took another breath as he felt Billie squirm around, still trying to make himself comfortable. Billie moved, lifting his leg up to lock it around Jason’s hip. Jason felt his eyes open wider once he felt Billie up against him, leg locked around. He could feel Billie slide his head up to his neck, still squeezing him tightly. “Mhhh. Jasey,” he heard him slur, pushing his body further up against Jason’s in the cramped space. Jason felt Billie move his head into his neck, drooling on his exposed skin. Jason sighed when he could feel Billie’s wet slobber on the back of his neck. Hopefully, he thought, he’ll fall asleep soon. Hopefully. Hopefully. When Jason felt Billie’s body become heavier against his own he assumed he was asleep. He moved slowly, knowing that if he woke Billie up he was fucked. He painstakingly crept out of Billie’s embrace, praying over and over again that he didn’t wake him. As he moved Billie off of his body he heard him mumble, “mmh. Jasey.” Hearing it, Jason froze, praying he hadn’t woken the singer. He breathed a sigh of relief as he watched Billie. He didn’t make another sound, and looked to be peacefully asleep, and for this, Jason was beyond thankful.
