So, I know this is super late in coming (but, hey, I should be writing a paper so it's a perfect time to procrastinate by catching up on everyone's journals!), but another reason to like baseball and sports in general (as I've found that once its one, the other seem to follow at least to a lesser extent), is that it's a great conversational piece with people ranging from my elitist fanatic baseball fan boss to the guys in the mailroom.
Not that I'm learning about sports in order to speak to the masses or anything insincere like that, but that it's an equalizer and surfaces common interests- all different kinds of people care about and talk about sports. And I like being, as a girl, able to surprise people by how much I actually know (which really isn't that much so just goes to show how low the expectations are).
