Logistical question:

I received a check drawn from a British bank, written in pounds. What is the most efficient way to cash/deposit this check in my US bank account?

I went to my normal bank branch yesterday and they told me it would take 8 weeks for it to post to my account if I left it with them. I'm not in a huge rush, but something

Fuck...when ever I got paid by British companies, they just wired the money to my account. I don't know how much of a cut they'd take, but you might try taking it to Thomas Cook or a more bank-oriented exchange place, just see if you can cash it for good ol' greenbacks.

I just let them clear. Sometimes it takes longer than eight weeks!
