New kicks

I have a new vision with regard to sneakers, entitled: Ugly Shoe. This vision is achieved by wearing shoes that are either LOUD or full of incongruous colors, or both. I think the effect is somewhat fetching.

The initial effort in Ugly Shoe, which I've had for a few months, was a success ( Read more... )

cute! those are the kind of shoes that put a spring in your step because you want people to see the soles.

I am so not in spring mindset! got to get w/ the program. I have something about layered shirts.. but it is not fully theorized yet.

Please present your findings re: layered shirts when you have concluded your investigation.

I have hit a conceptual brick wall about how to wear long sleeves other than to wear slim fitting button up shirts, untucked, with my jeans. I think I need some new alternatives.

yeah, that's pretty much what I wear all the time too (though I occasionally tuck in-- not sure if that is more of a girl thing). I am thinking though.. sometimes it could be over a solid or striped t-shirt (like a nicer t-shirt, maybe with an interesting neck or long sleeves-- NOT frat boy style with white crew neck). Maybe even 2 collared shirts over one another? I don't know if that is too cutesy. A lot of girls wear multiple tank tops, you know? I don't really wear tank tops but I own like 800 men's-ish button-up shirts, so I was thinking there might be some combinations that work. Research reporting to come.

Huh. It never occurred to me to pair two collared shirts. I wonder how it would look. Maybe tonight I will experiment while the sleet bats at my windows.

yes! i got some addidases with fluoro yellow a while back, though as a lady, i find them hard to wear -- mostly because of new jean shapes though, not because of the color.

i am trying to wear one item of clothing with a LOUD color per day though -- that is my spring strategy thus far. Also, no more sweater vests as I OD'ed on them in the fall (there is something more fall like about sweater vests than spring like anyway). I'm still liking the big on top tight on bottom silhouette. For the time being, I'm liking denim cut offs (kind of short) with (gasp) leggings and boots. I need some spring fashion inspiration though.

I put myself out there and this is what I get?!?!

I wear it with a nice oversized sweater on top. More winter than spring though. Do you really think that shorts with leggings underneath are ridiculous? I'm into it, and it could also be shorts with brightly colored tights underneath.

What jean shapes make them difficult?

I got these because my new slimmer-legged jeans do not cover any of my shoe, so I decided it was best to really go all-out.

Wow. I'm a Converse man, myself, but those are some amazing sneakers.

Thanks! Do you wear black Chucks, or are other colors included?

I don't know if you recall this style, but in about 1989 Converse unveiled a high-high-high top version of Chuck Taylors that could snap down, creating flaps around the ankles. I had a pair, that were neon orange on the outside, neon yellow on the inside (flipped to the outside on the ankle flap), and had neon green laces. That was my first unwitting foray into Ugly Shoe, and while they blew all subsequent effort out of the water on the Ugly score, I don't think there was much stylish or fetching about them.

Then again, it was 1989 and I was in the 8th grade, so what else could you expect?

That was probably better considered than my bold move into neon.

I am learning this, after some time as a loyal puma wearer. I think the pumas still fit me better, but they have disappointed me on the pink-shoes-are-only-for-women-and-we-don't-make-large-women's-shoes front. At any rate, due to my new jeans strategy, which is narrow-enough legged as to bunch directly at the shoe, I thought I needed something with a slightly higher sole and toe.

In other fashion news, I am reclaiming my cultural heritage this spring by wearing a brand new leather belt with three rows of pyramid studs. It seemed like the most appropriate thing for a 31 year old lawyer to do.

Mid life fashion crisis is going to be a riot.

I am thinking about a version of the pumas shown above that is altered to be all black, but for a shiny purple stripe. Lower key, but hideous all the same.
