Shirt sizing

Feb 24, 2008 13:45

Ask the internet:

I'm trying to buy a t-shirt to display my team spirit come Spring. The problem is, sports t-shirts are all made really big (both wide/baggy and long), so it's hard to figure out the size I need.

Can anyone hazard a guess as to the nearest equivalent to an American Apparel adult small? Would it be youth large? Extra large? ( Read more... )

I am a big advocate of buying children's clothes because they are so much cheaper. A youth large might even be quite big. Good luck!

I don't know, man. I don't suggest tall dudes buying youth sizes unless they get to try them on first. Why not go to a store to buy the damn thing? Sometimes larger youth sizes are really boxy and short yet still have necklines that are really tiny.

I'm slightly averse to having to return things that I bought through the mail, I say just go try a bunch of them on and see what looks best. I am kind of stoked on the idea of one of those jersey looking things rather than the t-shirt. This, in a really tight fit, would look awesome I think!

Woah. That thing is serious. Maybe I should expand my horizons.

I tried an adult small via mailorder and it was wayyy too long. You're right - I should just go try em on. But the two stores nearest to me don't have youth shirts. Why are they disregarding their metro/hipster/skinnyboy fanbase so? I feel so disenfranchised...

I'll keep an eye out up here for sizes that I think would fit you... keeping in mind that the adult small you tried on was way too long.

i wear a yankee's adult medium, if that helps... i imagine an adult small would work for you... though it might be a little short.

Tried an adult small and it was super long. Maybe the Yankees have better sense of proportion than the Phillies?

hehe.

I would think youth XL. I feel like I have tried on some AA men's small shirts before and they have been a bit too big on me (the tight ones, not the boxy ones) (also just confirmed this by looking at size comparisons between women's fine jersey muscle tank and men's), and I can wear a youth L typically, though not always (sometimes too small, or, like o+w said, the neck is too small). I agree though -- go try on. Or, aren't there like 8 million Phillies tshirts available in thrift stores in Philly?

Confession that will jeopardize my cred: I can't bear thrift stores.

Nomah is a very tall (6" 6) very thin man and wears a child's large Mariners or World Baseball Classic Champions T-shirt. But if you don't like the Guy Picciotto tight t-shirt look, it may be too small for you....

Aha! Now this is precisely the information I need. I am not quite so tall (6'2") and perhaps not quite so thin as Nomah, but the Guy Picciotto look is exactly what I'm going for. Well, if Guy was a baseball fan, that is. With such a crappy local team, who could blame him if he isn't?

A child's large Jimmy Rollins t-shirt is in my future!
