"Do you think one day, they'll tell stories about us?" Cassie asks one night, curled up as close as she can get to Rachel. They're in Cassie's room after another (never-ending) battle in this (endless) war, and she's just about given up hope that anyone else will be able to help them with this, her and her five friends who are still only children. Marco and Jake went to Jake's house, to keep up appearences with Tom, and Tobias and Ax are hidden somewhere in Tobias' territory, and it all feels so very far away, this distance between them. Between Cassie and the rest, between Cassie and the violence, between Cassie and hope --
Her body should be riddled with scars, with bruises, with evidence of the lives she's taken -- but there's nothing. Everything morphs away.
"Will anyone know about us?" she asks, desperately, clinging as tightly to Rachel as she can.
"They will," Rachel says, fierce and certain, and Cassie has to believe her.
