"The sight of Heidi Klum looking after our balls should fill us all with anticipation."

Liveblogging the World Cup draw, just in case anyone else is as completely and irredeemably geeky as I am.

3:02 -- I have the Guardian's commentary and the Soccernet webcast up at the same time. I never claimed to be cool. Just obsessive. (And hell, this distracts me from my Civ Pro final tomorrow, which I am completely going to fail.)

Heidi Klum. Why? Discuss. )

I know you keep telling me not to worry, but, man. I totally didn't want Ukraine and Spain in the same group. Ahh well.

That'll definitely be Spain's toughest match, but Saudi Arabia should be pushovers, and same with Tunisia, I think (I know fuck-all about the African teams).

And sorry, y'all, but the U.S. are probably fucked, and as a Canadian, that has to make me happy.

Hee. They are in the Group of Serious Bodily Harm. As long as England and Spain make it, I will be a happy little Commie.

I honestly don't think England are going to have any problems. Unless Sweden pulls something out of nowhere.

Is it wrong that I was hoping that USA and Iran would be put in the same group? Or is that me just wanting to bring on WWIII? (In that same vein I call attention to the political irony of Group G).

Not wrong, but it's impossible that they would be, since they're in the same "pot." They did get drawn against each other in 1998 somehow, and I do believe that the Axis of Evil kicked our Great-Satan asses.

England and Sweden should be the ones to advance from their group, definitely. Though I am kinda pulling for little T&T to surprise Sweden.

(Is that Everett in your icon?)

Yeah, I got tired of my MS Office Clip Suicide Icon so I decided to create a new one. This was the most interesting photo I could find that would require minimal photoshopping. I know, it's weird, but I like it for some reason.

(oh, and at the bottom it says "the wind and the rain". a bit of england humor...and i'm pathetic)

There's no way the Ivory Coast will make out of the group alive. O__O

*gnaws on Argies* They better not let me down WTFFF

You know? I think they could be a surprise second-place. I hope not, because I hate me some Drogba, but I think someone will surprise the European teams. I just really hope it's not Trinidad and Tobago. Because as much as I love them, I've loved England since 2002.

You know, England is the first team that drew me into football (Beckham's free kick against Colombia at WC 98 was what sealed the deal, as embarrassing as that is), but I've drifted over to the club > country mentality ever since I fell in love with Liverpool.

So they're my second favorite. But I have to smile at their relatively decent group. *pets poor Argies* <-- they, on the other hand, are going to need all the loving I can give them.

Wow, Argentina is in the Group of Death two World Cups in a row. Hopefully time they will actually get their asses out of the group stage, or I may choke on my Argentina scarf.

BTW, I still hate Civ Pro.

Good luck tomorrow!!

I think they'll do it. I don't like them, but I want them to do well, since they're one of the few teams that could probably beat Brazil, who I hate a lot more (as you may have heard).

I just got back from a study group, and I knew stuff! So I feel better about it now, I think; the problem is I got used to being one of the smartest people in the room in undergrad, and I definitely know I'm not that anymore. But the curve is supposed to be pretty generous, and maybe I do better than I think. So, you know. I'll survive, and I'll get a job.

Good luck to you too!
