Memo

Sep 01, 2010 07:10

To Spock (mirroredspock):

I hope you're settling in comfortably in your quarters. Please stop by my office during Alpha or Beta shift at some point within the next two days to discuss how you'll be filling your time while you're here on the station.

I look forward to meeting you.
Commodore Tandy Otrona

Spock, in the privacy of his room, sneered at the memo. The illusion of choice, that was all he had here.

It was no better than home. Worse - there he'd known himself and his place and what he might do.

But there were no other demands on his time and Spock was... bored. The prospect of purposeful activity was tempting. Though there was no possibility they would allow him access to the labs, to do so would show too much trust.

Spock sighed. And left his quarters, on guard as he walked the corridors - it was, if nothing else, a reminder of his own Enterprise.

He made his way to Otrona's office.

Though she tried not to form prejudices against people, particularly before meeting them, Tandy was not exactly looking forward to this interview. She'd reviewed the Starfleet documentation on this Spock, and she had every expectation of meeting a sullen, suspicious, prideful man with a moral code completely alien to her own. She had a sinking feeling that it was going to be like trying to employ a Klingon.

But she reminded herself firmly that prejudice had no place in her current position, and tried to banish her concerns. She'd treat this man with the same respect and openness that she gave to all new arrivals. Hopefully, he'd respond well - or well enough - to it.

She stood when she saw him in the doorway, gesturing him in from behind her desk. "Spock, I assume? Come on in and take a seat. I'm Commodore Otrona."

He would not have approved of the comparison to the Klingons. Spock was... less enlightened about such prejudices. And it had kept him alive in his own universe ( ... )

Suspicious, check.

"Yes." Tandy sat back down and called up the communique she'd received from Starfleet intel shortly before Spock's arrival. "I wanted to discuss how you'll be spending your time here. We could treat it as equivalent to leave, but I see that the duration of your partner's solo mission is listed as indeterminate. I thought you might like to consider some form of occupation for the interim, to keep yourself busy."

And in pocket change, though with the wage that intel was apparently laying out for "specialist consultants" these days, he hardly needed it. Maybe she should consider a second career.
