As is his wont, James wakens just after sunrise. This is normal for him, as is the sight of the half-hearted sunlight streaming in through the windows, the smell of the sea in the morning. What is not normal, however, is the bed he's lying in- deep and soft- the plush blankets covering him. As his sleep-grimed eyes blink further, he notes that

'Just past sunrise,' he says in answer to Sparrow's question, and smirks wryly at the face the pirate pulls. 'Not usually up at this hour?' He queries amusedly, 'Leave the early-morning captaining to your crew, mmm?'

"Crew's not to be awake at this unholy hour to need much captaining," he replies, opening both eyes and staring up at Norrington. The amused tone in his voice is reassuring, bolstering, and makes Jack feel capable of engaging in a bit if jibing. "Figures though that you'd be getting up at this time. Good Navy breeding and all. Do you know 100 press-ups with one hand as well?"
As he speaks, he raises one hand and waves it as a suggestion to have Norrington help him up.

'Oh, come now, Mr. Sparrow. Did you not say last night that we would be starting early in the morning? But then, perhaps I have a different definition of early.'
He raises an eyebrow and contents himself to watch Sparrow struggling on the floor for a few more moments before extending his hand to take Sparrow's and haul him up. He's a slight man, and much easier to lift than James had expected, and as such, he uses perhaps too much force in pulling him up and the pirate crashes into him, whapping James in the face with a few of his longer dreadlocks. James pulls a face a releases Sparrow's hand, stepping back and blinking several times as if that would help.
