I was really tired when I wrote this, so I'm glad someone out there gets it. Thanks man.
Yeah, exactly! (And I agree totally, who could not be nice to tracy_loo_who? She's awesome, we love her.) Everyone acted cool, there was no insane tackling incidents or court orders.
But it's not unlike he's in our frigging trailer, checking out our pumpkin colored bikini briefs. (And how much do I love I can now use that analogy?)
I want the fourth wall back too. I like the fourth wall. I'm ... safe in my anonymity. And if that's gone - well, same rules apply, Misha. I don't come to your house and stare at you and your wife, please don't come to my little house and stare at me and my laptop.
But people write books about internet fandom and fanfiction. I think it's safe to say it's not the underground phenom it used to be... And I for one am endlessly intrigued by the fact that Misha seems genuinely interested on some level by this. I was talking about the awesome Chicago Con reports/vids with eido and we agreed that if anybody should be allowed to, how to say this, walk around a bit and see what people are up to w.r.t his character, Misha would be that person. Castiel is so much about him.
I think I wrote this in comment on Tracy's post, too, that that whole incident sort of proves that Misha doesn't have some kind of blanket moral distaste/disapproval for This Thing We Do. I don't expect him to sit and write and post his own fanfic, because, well, he kind of co-creates the character himself. But also I don't think his not getting it means he's incapable of getting it

You're saying that because of all the information out there, and how Misha relates to us, he's in a better position than most to understand what we are, how we do things. And if he stumbles a bit in our proverbial front yard, it's not because he's giving us the Kripke 'evil eye', but that he doesn't know where that elusive line is, that can't be crossed.
I want to believe that. I really do. I want to believe that here's a guy cool enough to understand all our wackiness is playful and meant in good jabbing fun. If that's true, then hey, let him come on in. You're right - he does have a good handle on us - I mean, his Twitters alone show he's got the same kind of cracked humor we do. Maybe it wouldn't be bad.
It's just that niggling worry, you know? Maybe that's me coming off of 5.09, where we got a nod but we still got a punch in the face from Kripke.

I think the thing I find most positive about Misha being around fandom is that... lol, I will sound backdoor-adulatory, but I'll get it out... I always end up thinking, 'Hey, there's a life outside of fandom.' And not in the defensive, self-hatey, 'fandom is for losers' way. Misha's presence actually makes this fandom more fun/playful for me to experience. And that has to be because he finds it fun, too, yknow? Feedback loop of loopiness.
I think I find Kripke's attitude towards fandom far more hypocritical than anything Misha could pull off, perhaps precisely because the former is in a position of enough power that he could afford to rethink his, I'm going to say this

I really like that thought. That is a good, happy, gummybear porn thought (and thank you mods over at deancastiel for that phrase that will forever mean to me 'squishy happiness'). I like the thought of Misha making it less like we're the gay love interest that the main character sneaks around on his wife to see, but instead we're like the best friend, maybe even the unrequited-best friend crush. Misha has fun with us, we have fun with Misha, and ... it's just rightI think my biggest problem with Kripke is that he hates us because we're not the demography that he wanted for this show AT ALL (and wtf, dude,

Excellent post with some very pertinent thinky thoughts. Honestly, I think we are all going to keep getting more and more interconnected via internet, phones, twitter as time goes on. Misha, however, seems unique to me in the way he views fandom and did recover well (and tracy seems to be one of the most adorable people ever).
I would imagine that Misha looks at fanfic the way any actor looks at backstory for a role. I know whenever I did a play that had real characters in it, I would use any bit of backstory I had. So I would think this is more of that and less of "this makes me as a person feel squicky". Obviously this would only apply to character fic and not RP.
But, I do agree that Kripke needs to put the fourth wall back up. I honestly feel he has gone a little too far this season. It sounded like Jensen and Jarod loved doing The Real Ghostbusters and as actors I can understand why but at this point I think it would be so helpful if we stop the winky wink.
I don't know. I don't know. There's this wistful little thirteen year old girl in me who looks at what Misha did for Tracy and is like, 'This is one of the good guys.' Hearts and flowers abound. And if he's looking at Tracy's stuff for a good character feel - or any one on Tracy's fanfic lists? Then he's in the right spot. I know it. I've read it. Yet the cynical 31 year old in me is like, 'But HOW does he get it so well

He really does seem to know that some sort of incident happened and made his apologies in a very special and unique way. I've never heard of an actor doing that for a fan. Never.Yes, I feel for all of Misha's jokiness, he is essentially an extremely intelligent and "nice" person. There is a superficial, "on" niceness that every actor has but having lived in the theatrical/competition world for so long, I find most performers narcisstic, competitive and not as "nice" as the world may view them. With that said, I do believe most have a "nice" persona they share with the world and do appreciate their fans. But essential niceness to their very core? That's a little rarer and Misha may be one of them

Maybe I'm in the minority on this issue, but I'm completely fine with the fact that Misha may in fact be hanging around reading bits and pieces of fics and such :P I actually think it's kind of neat. For him to take time out of his day to actually look at these things has to mean that he at least is interested in how people choose to portray his character in fiction, and to be honest I can't blame him. I'd probably be out there doing the same thing :P I mean, at least everything he finds is utter worship of the man... I can't imagine he's ever found epic hate letters or anything of the sort (unless it was from a die hard obsessed and not so right in the head Wincest fan who can't handle more male pairings in the fandom :P

I keep having this weird fantasy/fear, that he is actually reading my stuff. He's out there, and he knows who I am, and what I've done with Castiel in all my stories and my really whacked idea of John the vessel, and while he apparently is down with that crazy sound -- now I'm going to keep expecting weird little notes to my stories.
Like, 'Wren, I don't want to be a grammar Nazi here, but past tense is your friend. Love, Misha.'
OR, 'Blueberry pancakes? C'mon Wren! You know chocolate chip pancakes have to be the angel's true weakness. Get on that, woman. - love, Misha.'
Because in my head? He'd sign them. Just to make me freak out more.
I have to say I'm intrigued by the idea, but at the same time TOTALLY wigged out. And weirdly not because I wouldn't want him to read - c'mon, who wouldn't want some kind of validation for your work from the guy portraying the character you love? Get out of here, it'd be awesome. But at the same time - he's reading my stuff. What if it's not good enough? He thinks it's poorly written? It's enough
( ... )
Hahaha... yeah, that's so true though. I'm already self conscious about my work to the point that I don't think it's good enough for fandom. Having Misha read it being the grammar Nazi he is (even though I'm one myself!) would be nerve-wracking :P A good nerve-wracking though, so I too have that fantasy/slight fear that he'll one day stumble upon my work... you know, if I ever CREATE any more xD
