and so: newcastle. first of all the conference itself (for more about it read here) - i found it very interesting indeed, if not a little intimidating to be hobnobbing with the heights of academia. some of them are lovely - i refer the right honourable gentlepeople to this man russell hunt, a canadian academic who is the sort of inspiring speaker ( Read more... )

yes, i read that one - one of the lecturers was saying that they had one of their own essays copied by a student and handed it in and was somewhere between flattered and appalled by their stupidity

i think you're right, which is why when i come to the working group next week and say "hey, guess what! there's no quick answers to it unless you want to ignore the problem from the student perspective and just clear the university of all guilt"

making academics do extra work. marvellous...

When I see architecture like that, I really want to get the heck out of the US. Beautiful. We've got nothing like that.

well newcastle is one of the loveliest i've seen. there's lots of arse and horrible modern bits, but the area from grey's monument down to the quay is possibly one of the nicest areas of architecture i've seen outside of bath. and bath is just the best place for architecture you've ever seen. almost every city in britain (apart maybe from leicester off the top of my head) has beautiful buildings striving for survival, just that some of the cities look after them more. it's to newcastle's credit that they are looked after significantly well...
