Yeah, I loved that book. His story about bringing Thanksgiving dinner into the theater and getting caught by the manager, who lets him slide, is priceless.
not got that far yet, but i have to say what i thought was going to be quite a fun, slight book has proved to be far more wonderful than i could ever have hoped for
Yep, I wasn't sure what to expect at first. I thought that Murphy might continue the MST3K model of mocking bad films, so I was pleasantly surprised to find him writing from the perspective of a passio nate film lover. Maybe he needed to write this book after ten years of throwing wisecracks at bad shots where the boom mike appears on screen...
what i'm impressed by is the fact he's obviously very knowledgeable about cinema and never once manages to flaunt it. i'd love him to write longer reviews on stuff - i'd love to do a similar british book myself, but more concentrating on our wonderful few little independent (as opposed to arthouse) cinemas out and about the country... i'm hugely enjoying it. i nearly bought the mike nelson books so i'm glad i got this instead
