Another video: the Madmen rickroll

A Breaking Bad video: The transformation of WW. (ETA - has many of my favourite Walt+Jesse moments, including Jesse handcuffed to the meth equipment. Here's a follow-up video from the same Read more... )

There's so much to be unpacked. But it doesn't feel like an intellectual exercise.

Wow. That would indeed be the ultimate irony.

I know! It explains why Walt would be so reckless as to leave evidence lying around (not evidence) and why he would be so callous as to smile proudly while looking at a love-gift from a man he had killed (not a gift). It's kind of neat.

It would be good structure to resolve the Gray Matter situation, so +1 for this theory. OTOH I can totally iamgine Gale giving his most precious objects to the man he idolizes.

Yes, the Gray Matter story kind of went nowhere, and we never found out what happened.

Some people think Gretchen dumped Walt, and he quit the company as a result. But I think he dumped her, and kind of felt he had to do the decent thing and leave the company to her. That makes him doubly bitter, because he lost a $billion by being the good guy.

I'm a little dubious about the claim that Gretchen's name was Black, since Eliot's last name is Schwartz (German for black, and where the black in Gray Matter comes from according to the birthday party episode) and that would be a hell of a coincidence. But what kills this theory as far as I'm concerned is that the damning inscription is clearly in Gale's handwriting - it looks just like the similar inscription in his notebook and even uses similar phrasing.

Yeah, I have looked into it since I posted that and I agree with you on those points, and Vince Gilligan seems to be saying the book is definitely Gale's

I believe that Gray Matter actually came from the fact that Elliott's last name was Schwartz (black in German)not because of Gretchen's name. I don't think Gretchen's maiden name was ever mentioned.

Apparently Gilligan confirmed in an interview with Alan Sepinwall that Gale did give the book to Walter.

Yes, I read that interview, and I think that definitively disposes of that theory
