Is anyone still here?

Just posted on my own LJ about the past two episodes, then realized I hadn't seen anything here.

Does anyone still watch the show? I actually wasn't so pleased with the last two episodes. But I'm hoping it'll pick up.

I did laugh quite a bit during the new episodes but I admit it's not quite the same, and the weird fake-trailers at the end really weirded me out lol

yeah, i don't know. the energy is too scattered. it's a lot like what started happening with THE SIMPSONS around the ninth season--too much focus on squeezing every possible laugh out of every scenario with references, call backs, and weirdness instead of more organic, slow humor from character development and interaction. each episode in the first couple seasons, you get this laser-like focus on maybe two relationships in the group dynamic [the april fool's episode with britta trying to prove she's funny to jeff while annie and shirley vie for power as 'shenanigans patrol'] - or even one character's relationship with one other member of the group and also the rest of the group in general [abed and jeff in POULTRY.] now it's just... i don't know. everyone has sort of the same relationship with everyone and reacts to things in meaningless cliches. it's funny in the moment, but ultimately empty. i walk away from a lot of these new episodes struggling to remember anything about them. if i'm lucky, i might recall that there was a 50 ( ... )

Super (almost year late) comment is late, not sure what happened... I was just skimming the comm. But I totally agree. Especially with this:

and britta is a mess. i was so happy to finally start getting some background on her (besides 'i was an anarchist and at one point there was a bad thing with a clown') and instead we get more spazzy infantilization. that episode with her parents could have been really good at one point. instead through the whole thing i was just wincing, in pain with how she's being written.
In all honesty, I felt like that episode just proved that Britta is a hot mess who really doesn't know what she's talking about. Which thus just proves all of her insecurities about herself right. I do think she always was like that to some degree, but that episode made it out like all of her childhood problems with her parents were mostly imagined. (They do admit they made some mistakes, but the way Jeff and the gang act, it's like those mistakes involved one small thing, not the things Britta implies happened.) In all ( ... )
