IC Information:
Name: Minako Arisato
Fandom: Persona 3 Portable
Timeline: Post-Game
Age: 17
Appearance: PHYSICAL || Minako is a short but moderately pretty girl of about 5'6". When she was younger, she was a little bit on the chubbier side, but athletics made her lithe, and volleyball at Gekkoukan High has toned her. Her most defining features are her copper brown hair, usuallly done up with a clip, and her eyes, which are a very striking (and almost unnatural) red color.

SCHOOL UNIFORM || The female version of the Gekkoukan High uniform consists of a white, button-up shirt with a high collar and large cuffs. Most of the time, Minako wears the school's jacket over the shirt, which is black and has a patch of the school's logo over the left side of the chest. The skirt is also black and pleated, hanging down halfway down her thighs. The uniform is finished with her white stockings, black loafers, and a red ribbon around the neck. This is what she wears when she goes to Tartarus. During the hotter months of the year, she wears a short sleeved version of her shirt, and doesn't wear the jacket, preferring to keep it tied at her waist.

ACCESSORIES || There are several things that Minako is almost never seen without. First is her hairpins-- there are six that are pinned over her hair on her left side, and are coincidentally arranged to spell out XXII. She is also never without her headphones and MP3 player. The headphones are red rimmed, and the MP3 player is chrome silver. When she was exploring Tartarus, her accessories also included a red armband on her left arm emblazoned with the S.E.E.S name, as well as a white gun holster around her waist that held her Evoker.

ALTERNATE OUTFITS || Minako's casual summer outfit consists of a simple orange cutsew and a white skirt. Her casual winter outfit is composed of a tan sweater, a red, yellow, orange, and white checked skirt with black leggings, and a red-orange scarf.
Abilities: The power of Persona allows Minako to call forth physical manifestations of different facets of a personality-- indeed, a "persona" or "mask"-- that a person takes on to face the hardships in life. Most Persona users can only call forth one Persona with the help of a gun-like instrument called an Evoker. These Personae are capable of evolution. Minako is exceptional to this, however, because she was mysteriously bestowed the power of the Wild Card, which allows her (at the end of the game) to possess a maximum of 12 Personae at any one time, and to create over one hundred more.

When she is in Facility 1, she will only possess one Persona, Orpheus Telos, whose power is nerfed to 50%.
When she is in Facility 2, she will possess Orpheus Telos, Seth, Kartikeya, Helel, Sigfried, Norn, Thor, and Scathach, and they will have all of their powers.

For each and every friend she encounters, she tries to establish something called a Social Link. While the friendship is a natural connection and a cherished bond in and of itself, the power of the Social Links is what allowed her and her Personae to get stronger as she and S.E.E.S advanced up the levels of Tartarus. Each Social link is associated with a tarot card arcana, and through various means, Minako could gain or create stronger Personae if her Social Links were strong as well.

The culmination of all of these Social Links is the Universe arcana, which Minako used to become the Great Seal. The Great Seal allowed her to fend off Erebus, the physical manifestation of all of humanity's grief and negative emotion, at the cost of her own life. By doing so, however, she prevents it from awakening Nyx, who is an all-powerful being that is capable of utterly destroying all of humanity when summoned. [Note: See Minako's history section for more on the Great Seal, Erebus, and Nyx.]

Aside from the more mystical abilities with her Personae, Minako is also capable of melee fighting. She specializes in using naginatas, but is flexible enough to be able to make use of any sort of long reach weapon; in fact, she's even used a hockey stick before! In battle, she's an excellent leader and a clever tactician, keeping a level head in the face of many crises. She always keeps her comrades' strengths and weaknesses in mind as she fights alongside them, and backs them up accordingly with whatever power she is capable of. Light on her feet, Minako is also capable of minor aerial finishers, honed from serving spikes on the volleyball court.
Personality: The origins of her personality are a little less than happy like she is in P3P. Over the course of her turbulent childhood, Minako needed something to protect her amidst the constant confusion and loneliness of her life. She used cheerfulness as an outlet to these emotions, channeling her sadness into activity and energy. Thus, her optimism and sociability were more of a force of habit than of actual positive feeling-- a mechanism to keep her occupied. Though she was genuinely friendly and kind to everyone that she met, she kept others at a distance so she wouldn't be too attached to them when it became time for her inevitable move to a new place, becoming the nice girl that everyone knew and admired but were never really close friends with.

This complicated tension between introversion and extroversion quickly unravels when she returns to Port Island and starts making true friends with the S.E.E.S members, schoolmates, and residents around the area. She begins to be happy because she is truly happy, and not because she feels that she has to hide everything inside with smiles. Now bold and confident, Minako has a vitality to her that is simply bursting from her person, and sometimes it never seems like she'll run out of steam. Her natural quirkiness also seems to have stemmed from the positive environment around her. She is inclined to express rather eccentric thoughts-- almost to the point where she seems childish sometimes. But this is simply how her mind works, taking notice of and interest in the unusual and strange instead of the normal and pleasantly mundane.

Her past experiences, despite their gloominess, still factor into her personality to give her a keen perceptions of others, allowing her a new understanding of the people around her. She understands what she means to her friends and who she is to them, adjusting her personality accordingly to be who they need or who she thinks they need. It is the tiny, nuanced changes to her cheerfulness that allows her to connect with her friends.

There are several other traits of hers that are worth noting, the first of which is her charm. Minako is far from being the most charismatic person of Port Island, but she has an air about her that draws people to her. It is, in part, what allows her to be so sociable as she is and can be, but above all, Minako's charm is what allows her to appeal to others in a way that is neither obtrusive nor meek. She is capable of stirring up emotions to psyche people up, but also soothe them as crises happen and people need someone to just listen to them. Her natural feminine ways also factor into her charm: there is simply a feel of her being a woman where most others are usually just girls.

Another characteristic is courage. While Minako is indeed brave in the conventional sense of facing danger (i.e. taking her duties as a part of S.E.E.S in stride, not backing down from fighting with the Shadows or Nyx, sacrificing herself to be the Great Seal), she is also courageous in many smaller ways that deserve mention. Minako isn't afraid to raise her voice if she needs to, or to get angry when the situation deserves it. She will not stand to let her friends be harmed, mistreated, or talked down to, and in a sense, her bravery makes it so that she can be affected enough by such things and to stand up for what she believes is right. She is also not a person who takes much stock in prejudice or stereotypes, and she ignores most gossip at school about her and the things she chooses to do. Minako is also highly intelligent, frequently ranking high on midterms and finals in school. When she was still at Gekkoukan, she was able to keep her grades up despite her social life, part-time jobs, and the troubles with Tartarus.

Some other miscellaneous things to note about her personality are that she loves to eat food, and can pack away as much food as the boys in S.E.E.S; she also loves Jack Frost dolls and hamsters, occasionally indulges in having her fortune told, and is a little bit of a pack rat.

History: Minako's story begins in the past. On one late night in 1999, when she was only seven, Minako and her parents were involved in a horrible car crash that left her without her memories of the accident or even of her childhood. The greatest blow was that her parents were also killed, thus leaving her all by herself in the world. After the funeral, she was carted around to different places all over the world to distant relatives who had no desire to care for a strange girl with strange eyes and a strange amnesia of her past. With no one to turn to, Minako warped her sadness into a false happiness, and thus scraped by for ten lonely years.

In April of 2009, Minako returned to the place of that accident, Port Island, on the grounds that she would be coming into Gekkoukan High as a junior transfer student, with housing and other such affairs completely settled for her. Her train arrived late to Iwatodai Station, however, and it was nearing midnight when she got off. Suddenly, the atmosphere changed: the sky turned sickly green, the moon turned a sinister yellow, and upright coffins were scattered along the streets. All the technology around her had shut down, even her trusty headphones. Confused but not too alarmed, Minako made her way to the dorm where she'd been assigned. A strange boy dressed in black and white striped pajamas greeted her, and asked her to sign a contract, which bound her to take responsibility for her actions. Finding this contract simple enough, Minako signed it. The little boy disappeared and was gone...for the moment.

School went well for the next few days after that, as Minako was already making new acquaintances. An attack on the dorm by strange creatures called Shadows, however, jarred her reality, bringing to light why she'd really been invited back to Port Island. The Shadows were starting to show up every night at a hidden time between 12 and 12:01 AM called the Dark Hour, which Minako had experienced upon first arriving to Port City. If they were left to their own devices and allowed to roam free, they would no doubt cause the whole nation of Japan to be in danger-- all the worse that normal people could not see them. A group called the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad, or S.E.E.S, was comprised of her dorm mates who possessed special beings called Persona that could defeat these Shadows. Their mission was to keep the Shadows contained within their nest in a giant Gekkoukan High-turned-tower called Tartarus, and to defeat as many of the Shadows to rid the world of them. With her own Persona, Orpheus, awakened during the dorm attack, and with her special Wild Card power that allowed her to use more than one Persona, Minako proved to hold much potential as a member of S.E.E.S and was immediately recruited, given the responsibility of being the field team leader early on.

For a while, climbing up the levels of Tartarus became a side responsibility for Minako that needed to be managed alongside her studies, her flourishing social life, her part time job, and her volleyball practice. S.E.E.S soon found out, though, that certain especially powerful Shadows could leave the barriers of Tartarus on a full moon, trying to wreck havoc over Port City. Under the impression that there were 12 in total, and that defeating all 12 would mean the end of Tartarus, Minako and her friends thew themselves into the task of defeating each and every one. Pharos, the little boy dressed in striped pajamas, revealed himself to Minako through her dreams, reminding her of the appearance of the big Shadows a week before they would arrive. When the 12 big Shadows had finally been defeated, he stopped visiting her. As if to fill the void in her heart that Pharos had left, the mysterious Ryoji Mochizuki arrived at school and began to spend time with her instead.

Through the course of these events, S.E.E.S added a good deal of members to their ranks, facing many adversaries and pushed onwards past many dilemmas. The most important of all the members to understanding the Shadows was Aigis. Aigis was an anti-Shadow android weapon created 10 years ago to exterminate Shadows, but her true mission and its end was not brought to light until S.E.E.S discovers that they had been tricked. They weren't bringing an end to Tartarus by defeating the 12 Shadows; instead it joined the 12 Shadows together and had brought about the Fall, an event which summoned the maternal being called Nyx who, once summoned, would destroy all of humanity, thinking that it wanted its end. 10 years ago, Aigis had been sent out to defeat the main body of the 12 separate Shadows, Death, in order to prevent the Fall from happening as a result of the Kirijo Group's horrific experiments on Shadows. However, Death was too strong for her to defeat even without its 12 other Shadows, so she had no choice but to seal it within the only vessel she could find-- a small girl nearby, whose family had been killed in the fray of the battle. That girl had been Minako. Once the seal had been complete, Aigis had deactivated from the damage sustained from the fight, and thus had never remembered any of the incident, just like Minako.

If this wasn't enough, things came to a denouement when it was further revealed that Death, since being restored, had exited Minako's psyche and had been bestowed a human form...a teenaged boy called Ryoji Mochizuki. Ryoji was now the harbinger of Nyx-- his existence meant that her arrival was inevitable. Being that he had been sheltered by Minako for ten years, though, some part of him was human, and thus he gave S.E.E.S a choice: if they killed him, they would be able to forget everything about Tartarus, Nyx, and the Shadows, able to live a blissfully ignorant life until Nyx's arrival and the destined end of humanity. Or they could let him live, and live every day until Nyx's arrival paralyzed by the fear of death.

Minako and her friends, after a long month of decision-making, decided to let Ryoji live, determined to meet Nyx and defeat her. While he was upset with their decision, he let it be and disappeared into the night, going to summon Nyx. S.E.E.S spent a month training for the fight. When the day finally came that they had to ascend to the highest part of Tartarus to meet their final enemy, they find that Ryoji has essentially become the Nyx Avatar. With no hesitation, Minako and S.E.E.S dove into their last battle.

After a long, difficult fight, it seems that they might have defeated Nyx. She shook off their attacks, however, and connected to the eerie moon. The moon was revealed to be Nyx's true body, which by now was pulling all the normal humans into the Dark Hour and caused S.E.E.S to be immobilized by overwhelming power alone. Things were looking as though all hope was lost...until Minako, through the power of the many Social Links that she had established, was bestowed the Universe arcana. With this power, she was able to use her life force and body to seal away Nyx. What her friends didn't realize until later was the fact that she seals Nyx in order to keep her from being awakened (and thus cause her to bring about the Fall) by Erebus, a manifestation of humanity's negative emotions that desire death.

Either way, Nyx was sealed, and things returned to normal, though all her friends sans Aigis forgot everything that happened as a result of Nyx being defeated. While she had given up her body and soul to become the seal, Minako managed to cling to life long enough to see Graduation Day, when her friends swore that they would all come together once again, no matter what. Being late for the actual graduation, Aigis took a tired Minako up to the school's roof. As they waited for their friends, Aigis thanked her for showing her how to truly live. Lulled by her friend's voice, Minako slipped into a deep sleep not a few moments before her friends showed up on the roof, having remembered their promise. Elated at their success and the world's continued survival, they tried to wake Minako up to have her celebrate with them.

But she never woke up. The next day she was pronounced dead, from reasons unknown.

Having fulfilled her promise to her friends to meet with them on Graduation Day, Minako's soul had returned to where she would remain for the rest of eternity as the seal to Nyx's chambers, fending off Erebus and the rest of humanity's anguish and desire for death.
