Title: Nothing's sacred anymore
Fandom: Tales of the Abyss
Character(s)/Pairing(s): Original!Ion, Van
Rating: PG-13
Comment: SPOILER FOR O!IONS EXISTENCE. Title shamelessly stolen from London After Midnight. ...... Story as well, too.
I wanted to write more Sync, but here, take some Ion. It's the same face, after all. XD

Nothing is sacred, and nothing is pure.

Mankind was a filthy pile of trash; no-one of them was worth more than the dirt under his fingernails, if he actually had any. But Fon Master Ion preferred to be clean.

They lived for the Score and bowed to the Score, to this useless God that kept them bound to one concrete part of future, a part that would lead to 'prosperity'. Pah! If those idiots only knew. There was no such thing as prosperity in the future.

Only death and betrayal.

"You're tired, Fon Master.", a careful, somber voice stated. Ion smiled and nodded and leaned back, breathing a soft "Yes" into the ear of the man giving him comfort, wrapping strong arms around his slender, slightly shaking frame, offering asylum from the trash and the dirt, if only for a while.

"The fever returned.", the same voice murmured. "You should go back to your bed."

"There are still some months left!", Ion chided, laughing in a terrible terrible sad way, but all the time keeping his cheerful, fake smile plastered across the trembling lips. "The Score won't let me die too soon."

"Everything is prepared, Fon Master. 'It' is almost ready."

"So...?"

Ions smile faded, and he sat up, leaving the cocoon of safety and warmth just to long for it again seconds later; But he did not return there. He turned around, facing the man, his fighter... his Commandant.

"Yes."

The man nodded.

"So then this is the beginning of the end?", the Fon Master asked, deliberately. "where everything is set? Where the Score will be broken? Where the Score will be wrong?"

"The day you have to go will be the day of our first victory, Fon Master.", he muttered under his breath.

"It is a pity that I can't see it!", Ion exclaimed, smiling again. "But, oh well. Nobody will notice it anyway."

Van did not respond. He just cocked his head a little to one side, giving room for the child's head that crawled nearer, just like he had thought he would, and flung his thin arms around his broad neck. Ion nuzzled closer, holding on to the elder man, for some moments being the child he truly was .

"...You are doing a good job, Commandant.", he complimented suddenly. "I am sure I chose the right man for this task."

"The honour is all mine, Fon Master."

Yes, nothing was sacred, and nothing was pure in that filthy world. But as soon as his Commandant was finished, the world would be pure again. It would be purified. It would be cleared from all the dirt and rubbish and... trash. Oh, there was too much of it...

"....And don't forget to clean up after you're done, Van.", Ion reminded him. It earned him a well-planned smile and a flicker coming from those dark eyes.

"It'll be my pleasure."
