I think it's important to keep in mind that when we lose - such as with Prop 8 in CA, or with Maine last night - the margins are still shrinking. As another LJ friend said, "we're not there yet, but give us a couple of years and we will be." It's not the end of the world.
I agree with you - message does trump common sense. This happens more and more, as people increasingly get their beliefs about the world around them from sound bites and silly speeches on the news, etc. As long as you say something is a certain way, it seems most people will believe it without much question or independent thought.
I know we'll eventually get there w/marriage. It's just particularly galling to see the haters' bogus arguments keep gaining traction, esp. the one about "courts & legislatures imposing their will on the people"...
Oh I'm with you there, trust me...I just can't let myself dwell on their bullshit too long. When I do, I just end up with higher blood pressure and a desire to tear my hair out. So I force myself to look for the silver lining instead :)
