Bioinformatics book topics

What textbooks do you all recommend for bioinformatics?

I'm going to follow up with an entry listing major topic areas - if anyone knows of a lower ontology for bioinformatics or just a taxonomy of BI topics that is commonly used, please let me know. After that, I will post individual subtopic lists, and reviews as time permits.

There's a professor here at CSU who just started a bioinformatics class, I could hook you up with his contact info if you wish.

I don't know anything about Bioinformatics...

But I adore your icon.

Thanks. If you take it, just credit starstruck_16.

You're added, BTW. Feel free to add me back if you like.

"Introduction to Bioinformatics" by Arthur Lesk is available at the ACM's PDC. I mention it specifically because it's available to anyone w/ an ACM Student Membership. (The other 3 books listed require professional membership...)

I don't actually know the quality level, but you can check it out w/out leaving your desk, so I guess that's a plus...

Don't have any favorite but comment on the Bioinformatic book from the Dummy series ... let's just say I don't understand it too well, perhaps because the area does not interest me or I just don't have the background for it.
