I know I've never dedicated an entire entry to a show but I have never been so stunned by the changes.
I'm in denial and definitely in need of watching the show again. I find it hard to wrap around my head that Izzy is still sick. Some part of me has always believed that she would come out of it alive. She is Izzy after all. The model turned doctor, not just gorgeous, and kind, but smart as well. What hasn't she conquered? But then maybe that is the irony of the character of Isobel Stevens. The girl who has it all has to fail at something right?
George joins the army, and is to begin as soon as possible. As I mourn the fact that he obviously will have a lesser roll in the show (possibly none), I begin to accept the fact. But as we learn that George was sent home early to spend the day with his mother before he ships out a new patient arrives. John Doe, a man who arrives in critical condition beyond identification due to his injuries who saved a strangers life. It is near the end when we learn that he has been trying to communicate to Meredith that he is 007. Unfortunately for those who are a fan of George, this doesn't mean James Bond, it in fact is a reference to George.
Of course maybe this is the intelligence that is Shonda Rimes. She pushes the limits to stretch our thoughts and insights in what we can accept. There has always been a love story between George and Izzy. And to be reminded by Izzy that she doesn't know what comes after life but it has to be better than hospital beds and treatment, and to learn that quite possibly after death she might be with George.
Of course, I'm still hoping that they both survive. Has Shonda pushed us over the edge only to catch us before we hit the ground and pull us back to safety? Or has she just written out two of my personal favourite characters but somehow tied it up in a way that I may be able to get over it?
I'm still hoping that the flatline changes and they are able to save at least one. I'm not too sure if I can imagine Grey's Anatomy without Izzy and George..
