The military was kind enough to give me two weeks of post-deployment R&R time, which I am currently enjoying. This is the perfect time to do everything I ever put off, and the very first item on that list is "get a kitten." So everyone, I'd like you to meet Strafe.
Strafe is a refugee from the local animal shelter. He's a black shorthair with no tail who, as you can see, is a complete spaz.
This is him playing with the mouse-racetrack toy I got him just a few minutes ago. Strafe has an amount of energy which surprises me, even for a kitten. He got his name from his habit of running in front of my legs over and over whenever I walk through the house.
Here's Strafe in his natural habitat: the Internet. In the absence of real mice to chase, he goes after my mouse cursor. Strafe has dreams of being a LOLcat someday, but (as I keep telling him) he's going to have to start small and work his way up.
When he's not tearing around the house pretending we're being invaded by chickens, he's a very affectionate cat. He'll sit on my lap and purr while I surf the Internet, which is a very pleasant state for all concerned. Sometimes he'll actually climb my shirt and nuzzle my face. It's really nice to have someone at home whom I can cuddle with whenever. :-)
