Lemme guess you noticed that the current healthcare bill wasn't sort of good

The best part of it- the absolute best part- is that once people without insurance start getting fined and everyone's health care costs go up the backlash will be so immense that nobody will even remember or care that the teabagger fucks went full-on kkk this week.

Cue the republicans swooping in to save the little guy (they won't of course but they'll spin it a lot better I'm sure), cue everyone being even more utterly fucked. This shit is even easier to call than the second Iraq war.

ALWAYS bet on everyone getting more and more fucked, always. It's worked longer than I've been alive and it's not about to stop in any of our lifetimes.

The fines for not having insurance are waived under several circumstances, for instance they're waived for anyone whose income falls below the threshold for taxation. The bill's not great, but it's not stupid. And of course people's healthcare costs are going to go up, the whole point of reform was to keep that trend from spiraling far out of control while the country continues to grow. If people are universally too dumb to grasp the difference between small increases in cost and catastrophic increases then any efforts to reform anything that costs anything in this country are doomed. I'd rather find out if people are that stupid, rather than just assume that they are and forever accede the governing philosophy of the nation to Barry Goldwater's corpse by default ( ... )
