An old adage....

Remember the old adage, "It's not what you know.... but who you know."...?  Well, guess what? It still flies, even in the 21st century......
Case in point: Moi. With no apparent skills (but my personable charm, of course...) or resume or any experience, I have just landed a pretty nice job.
As you all might know, Starbucks was killing me and I spent ( Read more... )

Really? I never heard that! We have a poster on the door, recruiting... a smiling gray haired gentleman in a green apron. Poor guy won't last a week!

I am trying not to be bitter. I think it was just a bad choice and I must admit, my boss did warm me.....remember?
This whole experience has taught me very valuable lesson, one that many who do not work out of home tend to miss and that is to KNOW what you will do and what you won't. I know now, that I will no longer put myself in that "service" position, no more uniforms, no more HATS! No more standing for hours.

Congrats on the new job! That is great news. Exciting to try something new! How far is it from where you live? Hopefully it won't take too long to get to and fro work every day. I spend three hours just commuting every day and that leaves very little time and energy for my writing in the evenings. Still, sounds like a fabulous opportunity! Ing.

What fabulous news! Congratulations! I've been quietly seething over that comment your supervisor (?) made to you when you asked about more hours, so I'm delighted that you can now thumb your nose at Starbucks and gallop off to greener pastures. And this sounds like it could be a really great job.

Well, it's been about a week and I really love the job. It is very demanding mentally (but not debilitating) but I enjoy my interaction with the Dental offices and the temps...we are go-betweens. There is So much too learn.... medical terms, insurance terms...... lot's of PC stuff, but I am picking it up and my boss and coworkers are so helpful and welcoming. My 8 hours FLY! We are so busy all the time. But she gives us an hour lunch and that is a good time to go for a walk, go to Starbucks, or Barnes and Noble...... just chill.
I am on a 4 month probation, then a salary raise and benefits...... I think she is happy with me.
I would love to have a day off, in the middle of the week, do work on the business side of art..... I have talked to her about it....... She is open but needs to wait to see how well I can work on my own.
Anyway kids... fingers crossed!

Hugs,
Con
