Costume prop assistance needed: LotS

 My friends are planning to cosplay Richard and MordSith!Kahlan from Legend of the Seeker (for Dragon*Con), as shown in the picture I have included below the cut.  They are looking for help with the collar and chain.  Anyone here have any ideas?  Thanks!

Great costumes, hopefully you or they will post some pics of the finished products.

As regards the neck collar and chain. If it was my project I'd get some large diameter PVC pipe from a Home Depot, have them cut a 1.5, 2 inch piece or several in case I messed up. Then buy some of that plastic "fake" chain for hanging ceiling lamps. Cut the collar in half, rivet in a hinge, rig up a front closure for the chain to go through. Then start priming it with gray primer paint. then a layer of black maybe, then a layer of "bronze" or some metallic looking paint. then do the rough treatment to give it an aged look.
