I've been wondering that too. I mean, I almost feel like he can't in a way. Before he presented himself as a crazy, quirky, freakishly silly, ADD guy who had a teasingly-conservative edge about his body and sexuality, and basically anything naughty :P It made for amazing TV when things would go wrong or guests would kilter into the "going-over-the-FCC-standards-line" zone and he'd adlib his uncomfortableness (not that he actually was, but it was part of the charm
( ... )
That's true, he did break through restrictions. But that Irish Catholic sexual repression is part of who he is. I believe it wasn't all entirely an act and that some of it will still show through, intentionally or not. Also, if he shaves his beard and they put him back in his late night uniform--the suit and tie--he'll have a different persona than when he's bearded and wearing a leather purple suit.
But I agree. Things will be different. I'm just really nervous to find out how, because I love my innocent and geeky Conan. He totally shed that part of himself this summer. That was no coiffed dork on up on stage--that was a different person with a guitar and a six pack.
And if you look at early Late Night episodes when Conan's head was kind of chubby and he and Andy had that nervous energy, he was a different character then before he evolved into the lanky, straight-laced guy we know.
Whatever he shows us in November, I'm certain he'll make it work.
I agree. I remember thinking at one of the shows that it seems like a part of him kind of went crazy, in a good way though lol.
A friend of mine was just talking to me about how he thinks his show might end up not being the same and not work or something...But after seeing what they did on tour and the interviews he's done, I have a HUGE amount of faith in the new show no matter what. I think we'll see parts of his old TV personality come back mixed with the new.

I really hope he brings back Frankenstein Wastes a Minute of Our Time, if this is the case.
Man, I'm so nervous about the new show. I wonder if Conan will have the same TV persona?
