Crudely, by assuming world population will stabilize at 10 billion, and that all current environmental damage is to the account of the richest billion.

I've read that number is actually closer to 80% to the richest billion, and the UN (World Population to 2300, 2004) has midrange estimates around 9 billion. That gives a revised figure of 7%, which isn't as interesting as it seems, because none of the personal consumption figures are accurate to 2%.
