Persona 3 - Ficlet #2

Endgame Minato/Aigis written for noisama:

She was always there after... everything. He wasn't quite sure why he was still here, nor did he have any idea of why she would be the only one to remember everything. Well, no, that wasn't entirely true. It was probably because of her very nature. Or perhaps in spite of it. It was easy enough to make machines forget things, but only if somebody remembered what it is they needed to forget. But then again, when had she ever just been a machine?

She was always there waiting for him after class, always there after club, always there when he visited the park or the bookstore or the dance club or anywhere else but the dormitory. He didn't like going back to the dorm, and tended to put it off until absolutely necessary. At least they'd all be in their rooms when he came in late. Everybody but her. He didn't really regret what he'd done, but it was painful to not be remembered by the people who he'd been so very close to such a short time ago. He wanted them to remember, but at the same time he didn't. A year's worth of pain wasn't exactly something he'd wish upon anybody. But still, it was lonely being the only one who remembered Ryoji, the only one who remembered why Shinjiro died, the only one who remembered it all.

But whenever it seemed like it might be too heavy a burden to bear, she'd be there. She was always there, watching and waiting. Sometimes he wondered how she had the patience for it, but then he'd remember how she'd always been there before too. Aigis was always there. And because of that, if nothing else, he remained. For as long as he could manage it, he'd remain. For her, it was the least he could do.
