Where the wild things are

Okay, now that was *funny*!

The Spiderman one nearly put me on the floor. *g*

But what is this strange reaction you have to the dress-up people? They are gentle souls for the most part and would never hurt you, unless maybe you called an Anakin an Obi-Wan or something.

The spiderman is incomprehensible, but I think it speaks to the thing that makes me nervous. He/she has lost touch with his surroundings. People who dress up at scifi cons seem to dislike themselves and want to assume other identities, to the point that they are appearing in public dressed as people stronger or more interesting than themselves. I feel this makes them harder to predict and potentially dangerous. They've already split from their real identities, what else could they split from?

Of course, I accept the possibility that it's not like that -- I’m just explaining how I feel. Some people fear clowns, I avoid costumed con-goers. :::shrugs::: And truly, I’m not frightened of them, just… nervous. And, yes, sometimes I get nervous around costumed RenFaire people, too. But, I understand the urge to wear pretty dresses.
