Deeply, deeply shocking. I can hardly fathom a developed community where this is acceptable. I know all communities have their own historical baggage, blah blah, but *damn.* These people *look* like they're here with us in the 21rst century with their machine-made clothes and buildings, but they're not.

Even more disgusting than the whole kidnapping and treating women like property/livestock custom, is the fact that once people suspect the woman is no longer a virgin, her life is basically over.

We've talked before about the need to respect other countries' customs, but this is very clearly an abuse, and these women are being taken against their will and forced to do these things.

That should never be okay, anywhere.

Exactly. My thing is: if they *know* that she's not spending the night with him; if they know that she is, in fact, spending the night fighting off his relatives (and don't even get me started on the female collaborators); why is her virginity suspect at all? If you say, "Damn, that loser I met the other day kidnapped me and his family tried put the thing on my head, but I fought 'em off all night and ran like hell this morning," how can it be an issue? Everyone knows she's not having sex if the whole damn family is in the room. It makes me wonder if there's something more that they're not telling us, like if the women are raped as a part of it and the reporter just didn't ask enough questions about it. If not, then WTF???

Also, why are they accepting rides from men? If I was a chickie, I'd take the bus at all times. I wonder if women can drive there.

Fucking hell. :::is angry at them for blindly following system:::
