Arranging to go to China

I'm not going to China. I'd like to, but I'm not. However the CEO is going to China. A few weeks back we had some people involved in e-government from Chengdu come to visit and now they want him to go visit them. So I got an email this morning saying could I arrange flights and a visa for the week after next. Here are some of the complications

Chinese visas are very very complicated things. But I think a trip to the Chinese embassy could be a jolly good excuse for a morning off the most professional thing to do.
