Author's Note: Cut text/Title from Moon River by Frank Sinatra. Apparently, rather than resting for school I write little things like this.
“An adventure!” exclaimed one, with hands placed on hips, surveying his domain from atop his bed. “That is what we shall do; have an adventure!”
“But where would we go?” a smaller voice piped up, almost hidden among the mess of the young boy’s room, wanting to seem unobtrusive as possible in the crowded space.
A daring leap across the room and a thunder-like landing lead the other to kneel before him, face filled with awe and excitement, “To a land with pirates and fairies, mermaids and Indians! Where no one can tell us how to go about our adventure, and where we can spend forever together because time stands still. Will you come with me?” a boy usually so brave now sounding so timid with a hand held outstretched in question to the other.
Eyes are met, one gaze scrutinizing, the other hopeful; and then a nod. “But will I be able to fly?”
The first smiles brightly, almost manically, all doubt washed away, as he grabs the smaller boys hand, pulling him quickly over to the window sill “You will be able to do anything you ever wished for Patrick!” and then a whisper, broken, pleading, “Just don’t fly away from me.”
Gazing out upon the stars for a moment Patrick then turns to Peter with a soft smile, “You are the only one I want to have adventures with, and if you couldn’t fly I would carry you with me.”
